Is there a way to shut off the images and thoughts that come to our conscious mind....temporarily?

I realize the whole point of image streaming is learning to recognize your subconscious hunches, thoughts, etc....but there are times when I simply need to have total concentration without this steady stream being brought into my awarenes....I have always had a hard time shutting off the stream of thoughts that seem to keep entering my mind when I really need to focus (ex. martial arts training).

Any ideas on how to balance the two (image streaming/better subconscious recognition and no thinking/total concentration)?

For focused concentration on a task similar to reading or writing use the Tangerine Technique. People have used that technique to enhance their performance in sporting activites, listening to lectures and even playing computer games.
