I've been photoreading for quite some time now, and I seem to still have problems activating. I get the impression I'm not activating properly. I've been continually photoreading so it's not that I haven't kept it up, however, I notice that when I photoread, my mind is tempted to stop and read everything.

I tend to think "If I don't get everything now, then I'll miss something important"

Can anyone give any tips on what to do? I'm currently study as a grad student and I have a tremendous amount of material to cover. I'd really appreciate any tips.

Also, is it recommended that I activate multiple times?

By the way, all the other steps of the photoreading whole mind system really helped me to crank up my reading speed. Establishing my purpose before each step really helps me stay on track and focused. It's quite wonderful to read at such a faster pace than before using rhythmic perusal and getting into the ideal learning state. =)

You never get everything "now" even with traditional reading. You need to check page 17 of the PhotoReading book what you need to give up.

Activation works when you have a solid purpose See page 25 of the PhotoReading book to help with sorting out your purpose.

Multiple "short" passes. In say blocks of 20-minutes works best, And to really pull it out especially for study material mind map. Do the mind mapping after activation and use the book to fill in the blanks. It's amazing how much people remember when they permit themselves that quick squizz back at the material. It takes less than 2 seconds and they re-trigger the neural networks. The added bonus of re-triggering is the neural pathway is strengthened as a result.

I tried activating for three 20-25 minute sessions and I did what you said.

It's not exactly what I expected, but by mindmapping, I realize I am comprehending more than without mindmapping at all. I plan to activate more today to get a fuller understanding of this book.

In fact, now that I know what I'm doing, I understand how the activation process works. I completely forgot that comprehension comes in layers. At the same time, I'm beginning to enjoy the process.

I'll be sure to let you know how things go after I'm done.

It's one of the reasons I recommend mind mapping especially in the early days. Over longer periods you find that the body mind connection has built and you get what you want from a book because you trained the focus using mind mapping.

By the way, when practicing activation, would you recommend starting with shorter texts like short stories, magazine articles and the like?

For nearly the entire day I've decided to activate a large block of text in a book and I haven't gotten really far. In fact, I still have yet to get the experience where everything 'gels'.

I made tons of 20 minute passes, and felt like I was getting no where. Then I kept on, and continued to ask question and I still feel like i haven't gotten anywhere.

I realize that comprehension comes from whole to parts, but I suppose I must've done something wrong. I also recognize that my expectations are high partly due to the difficulty of the book. It takes a while for me to comprehend the material.

This particular book is a commentary and it doesn't have a particular 'theme' or anything along those lines. Since I have a major reading assignment due tomorrow, I decided to do some regular reading (using rhythmic perusal) and I think I'm getting much farther at the moment. But I realize that regular reading won't really cut it for me. I won't be able to keep up at this rate.

I could really use all the help I can get.

Anyone care to comment?

The book is a commentary on Genesis, and my goal was to understand the details of a particular chapter from the book.
