The Experiment
The Purpose:
I want to test how PhotoReading Wholemind System influences my study. I have very poor comprehension which is lower than 20% in common reading. I want to spend totally 1 hour to activate the targeted book.
Book:
Memory: What it is and how it works: facts, theories and approaches by Peter Marshall.
This is a book with 123 pages including front cover and index. It contains mostly text and of course, very few picture included in this book.
Date and Time:
Start between 2100~2300 on 6th October 2006
Background:
I am a Chinese and I am educated in Malaysia. I take three language courses in my school education and my first language is considered to be the Chinese. I studied English since I am young (4 year-old) and I am greatly educated in METS (Metropolitan English Teaching School).
In METS, I am a very stupid student for the English teacher, same as my result. My composition and comprehension is lower than normal student, and I often get grade C- and even D in my exam result.
I left METS in year 2004 with sadness. Since that, I got a very bad result on my English subject in my school (50~6* %). I score A in my English subject in PMR but I got very lousy result (60%~70% in Malaysian standard test), and got a very low grade in triple A1 standard on English subject during my year 4 and year 5(2006) in my secondary school.
My English result in my school does not mean that I am good in reading and understanding English book. The entire English book I have ever completed in my nearly 18 year-old lives is Goosebumps series and Harry Potter: the sorceress stone which is considered as children level English story book.
I have just completed my photoreading course on July 2006.
The Problem:
1. I do not have ANY knowledge on psychology and even memory.
2. I do not have knowledge on science facts which based on English text
3. I have not even completed a book that targeted adult market.
4. I am in the Hard time……well today I just give up my great subject in my exam. I must consider that I did very badly after learning PhotoReading Wholemind System. I thought this is psychological problem so now I want to have an experiment under this bad condition to test the effectiveness of PhotoReading.
The Condition and Situation
I just set all reading tools on my table and now is the time to prove that PhotoReading Wholemind System is effective for me or NOT. I will be very strict in my test and result.
A burning session for burning day. It is hot and I cannot focus intensively on my study. I will move the study location to my father’s room which is equipped with aircon. Well……perhaps I will have a game first.
The Result:
Prepare, Preview and PhotoReading: 10 minutes
First Breaks: 10 minutes
First Activation: 20 minutes
Second Breaks: 10 minutes
Second Activation: 20 minutes
Third Breaks: 10 minutes
Third Activation: 20 minutes
Total Activation time: 60 minutes/ 1 hour (included mind-mapping time)
Total Breaks: 30 minutes
Total time used: 10+60+30 = 100 minutes / 1 hour and 40 minutes

Method of Activation
1st 20 minutes
Condition: When I first see the content, I am really fainted. How can I comprehend and remember these things that I have never seen before?
Method: I can only form the question that related with who, when, what, where, how. I just SR and dip the what I have interested and what I can find the answer from my question. Later I filled my mind map with what I have read. In my first mind map, I can only fill the blank with the name of chapter and not any branch on chapter 4 to chapter 9.
2nd 20 minutes
Condition: When I open the book and see the content, I start to realize that PhotoReading has began to work in mind. I began to know what I have read.
Method: I can form detailed question. I did the same method which is mind probe and dip what I can find the answer from the question. (the only difference is the question is more detailed)and fill my mind map with colour pencils and some interesting symbols.
3rd 20 minutes
Condition: In the moment that I see the content, I knew that I have no more problem on understanding the contents of this book.
Method: I am in lack of concentration and I cannot form any question now. I did rapidread on the whole material and filled my mind map. I also did some skittering on the material.
Conclusion:
As you see, I have proved my poor English in this experiment (even this sentence). My only conclusion is, a normal form five secondary student who even cannot get 64% of comprehension on his science subject during his common reading life have just photoread a psychology book in the night and comprehend it for 60 minutes then got 67.86~69.86% of comprehension.
Happy PhotoReading!
