Photoreading and general study in
a noisy environment is a very
pertinent topic for me.
I live in a very noisy building and
deal with slamming doors, loud music,
and constant interruptions by
neighbors and landlords.
I usually study elsewhere, but
if I must study at home,
I have some tools for effective focus.
This may be extremely helpful, if you
are going to be stuck in that noisy environment for
a while.
In addition to the tangerine technique,
I find the key to concentrating in noisy
environments, is to be very clear on my purpose
of why I am studying the material.
If noise is a continuing problem for you,
I found that when dealing with adverse environments,
the New Option Generator, described by Paul Scheele, in his book,
Natural Brilliance, is a really good tool.
The book is priced at $18.95, and I believe,
and it is worth at least 100 times that much, in
terms of how your life can change and obstacles in your life disappear.
In summary, what the New Option Generator will
do for your concentration and focus is to:
facilitate your understanding the benefits of acquiring the
information you PR and the negative outcomes,
you can acquire if you fail to PR the material.
Paul Scheele also says to look at the hidden
benefits you achieve by procastinating
or allow yourself to be distracted. e.g. you may be
unconsciously wanting to feel like a victim
of your noisy environment or you may want an excuse to prove
to yourself you are not ready to move up the ladder
at your job.
It takes about 30 minutes to an hour
to do all 7 exercises on how to apply
the New Option Generator , but it is
worth the investment of time, for you
can then apply it to other "challenges" in your life,
and breakthrough what you consider to
be present "limitations".
I hope this helps
