Came across this post titled "Praying for Rain - National Rain Day May 8th" on a blog I visited and thought to bring it to your attention to share and if possible, let do a bit on our part to help out on the drought situation in Australia (and any other parts of the world that's currently experiencing drought... though the post is addressed to the Australians

National Rain Day, spearheaded by John MacCallum, is calling all Australians to stand barefoot on the earth and go through a visualisation to attract rain. Full details, including the visualisation in either text or MP3 can be found at www.nationalrainday.com.

“The process is a prayer of attracting rain through raising collective consciousness, as opposed to attracting the lack of rain by acknowledging it. This is a powerful tool that everyone can use to create positive change. Many successful sportspeople and ancient races use visualisation.”

Mr McCallum said National Rain Day was there to create rain but rain may not come on the day. “It’s all in the intention” he said. “We want this country to return to a harmonious natural balance. If we do not attract more rainfall, it will affect the quality and quantity of the food we eat.”

So... ummm... did it rain?

Yes but not enough and not where it was needed most.

WInWIn---I wish we could send you some of ours !

No doubt, if you're getting the kind of rain we got last week. (Our only road off the property was under 8 ft of water.) Prior to that, we had about a 7 year drought which was really awful. When these big rains finally came, it almost seemed as though ALL of our rain prayers were answered at the same time!

Problem is when it moves from one extreme to the other. Too much water too fast erodes the soils.

Our biggest wish is a huge cloud over our dams and a nice steady rain for a day or two for our land.

A person I know in South Australia has been washing herself in 1 litre of water for a month. That water is recycled to her garden. April had some rain that put some water back in to the tank for her and she was finally able to enjoy a bath.

Queensland some area Level 5 water restrictions (timed one 4 minute shower a day), Melbourne is at Level 4 I believe. Sydney has also been on the edge of level four. We are not allowed to wash our cars unless we have tank water we can only water the garden with a hand held hose on Wednesday and Sunday after 4pm before 6pm. Unfortunately my car has to park on the road and there is major road works going one 3 blocks away... and then across the road the house that burned down the property was levelled and there is another house being built. it's kicking up quite a mess and I have to take a bottle of water to clean the windscreens. No point in washing the car at a recycled water place because it will look worse if it gets wet. If the current situation remains Sydney's dam will be empty by the end of 2008 Unfortunately it rains over the city but all that run off winds up in the ocean not the water storage areas.

Me in Sydney not. More concerned for my Queensland friends. They need the rain. Heard that Melbourne had rain today.

Problem is Aussies no longer care about comments by Forecasters... they got it wrong for too long. Sure it's nice to get the monthly rainfall in one day but that's a long way from recovery. And yep it rained today. I don't need it it's needed over the dam. And because it rained don't want to see my car. It hasn't been enough to pack the dirt. Because it's been so dry for so long it just runs off like running across concrete.

It was the same in this part of Oklahoma--and wildfires burned thousands of acres. It will rain there, too, I'm sure--and I hope soon.

Forecasters--we call them "weather geniuses" because they get it wrong almost every time. Real good at tracking our tornadoes, but that's as far as their skills go. And yet they deign to predict long term weather? ROFL!

Hope you folks get your rain, and wouldn't it be especially lovely if it drizzled for about a month, to soak in, before the "gully-washers" come?
