hi
I am still trying to learn it. So patiently I go through the process again and again, on different kind of books. And when I am at making a mindmap and have put everything inside that I knew from previous general knowledge and from trigger words I stare at the sheet - the mind happy and calm from relaxing, hanging out in a white nebula of peace. But the content of the book is nowhere to be found. The more time I am spending staring at the almost blank sheet the more impossible it seems to me that anything will ever happen. I know I am making a mistake somewhere but where?

Hi.

Tell me about your purpose. What do you want from the book? How are you going to use this information from the book? What is your goal?

What will be different after you have gotten what you want from the book? What will you know after activating the book that you did not know before?

It sounds like you do not have a purpose. Share with us the book you wanted to activate and what you want to get from the book.

hi
the last book was a small one on qi qong. I started reading on the way home from the bookshop. My Taiji teacher keeps explaining why good taiji needs qi gong practice and I'll attend one of her seminars in fall. I wanted to know if there is an exercise for stiff hands inside - but I found that one before PR. I wanted to read the rest to practise it correctly and to see if there is something else that is good to me. Ohh but its just so nice and good I will gulp it with traditional reading tonight and try PR again on something else. (Or maybe just because of that PR again?)

Another book was on systemic psychology. I wanted to read it to see if this is an interesting field for the doctor thesis. I'd like to go back to university because I miss it a lot. With jobs and responsibilities alongside it will be tough and PR would be a great help. Here I had more of specific questions like "is there a connection to systemic therapy" "whats the autors problem with behavioral therapy?" (I pick a lot up with skimming through a book, could that be a hindrance to letting go maybe?)

And then artbooks, I am a painter. I wanted to know how colleagues had approached the subject of the book, what their motives had been to work on the subject on the book.

purposes would be overview and an idea for a thesis in psychology and knowing what others are doing in art.

hm, I'll try to PR the little one on qi gong again tonight

Hi.

Overview does not sound like a purpose to me. Why would you want an overview? What is an overview going to do for you?

An idea for a thesis for psychology sounds more like a mind-probing question than a purpose. Now why would would you want a idea for a thesis? What will you do with a idea for a thesis in psychology. Why do you need to know how other artists are approaching a book? What will you do once you know how other artists approached a book?

Hm! So is it is not "what did xy say about theory xy" but "when I read this and this I will be up to date again like fresh out of college and can then find a subject for the thesis and when I have read this I will be able to talk about the subject with a professor"?
And for the little qi gong book it could be "After I read this I have a pool of beginner exercises to choose from - for 10 minutes or 60, for the subway or at work - that will be good for health and wellbeing"?
And for the artbooks "After I read this I know better what others have already done on that field so I don't repeat but can contribute something new"
Did I get it? :P at least I can't wait to try again!

Hi.

No what you are describing does not sound like a purpose at all. I think that is why you are having problems when you are trying to activate. Purpose needs to be real clear. If you are vague or not really clear about what you want from a book you are going to have problems activating a book.

It seems like no purpose is clear or good enough for you...

Could you describe for us a good purpose? I know this depends on each person, so you a personal example of your to explain what exactly do you mean by a good/clear purpose.

Hi.

There is no such thing as a one purpose that fits all or will work for all.

Purpose will vary from person to person.

Purpose can obviously vary depending upon what the person's intentions are to get from the book. Someone whose purpose is to learn and master complex mathematical formulas so that they can apply the formulas in the field of engineering would have a different purpose than a person who wants to get a masters degree in psychology.

There are 2 parts to a purpose. One part of the purpose the why factor. Why do you need this information?

The second part of the purpose is how you are going to apply or use the information.

After you have clearly stated what it is you want from the book you then state what you are going to do with that information.

Your purpose is not set in stone. Your purpose can change as you go through the activation process.

The more clear you are about what your purpose is and what you plan to do with the information the more you increase the possibility of attaining it.

Sorry, but you confuse me more than explain me what a good purpose is.

Pixel posted this:

I think his objectives are clear,

(posted by Pixel) "And for the artbooks "After I read this I know better what others have already done on that field so I don't repeat but can contribute something new"

his "Why" is because he wants to know better about what others have already done

and his "How is he going to use it" is he is going to contribute with something new to the field

But you said on your post after he posted that that this is not a good enough purpose, and i asked you on my last post for you to give us an example of a "good purpose" but you probably misunderstood my request thinking that i wanted more explanations of a "good/clear purpose"

Could you just please share a personal example of a purpose you have set for PR a book? I just want to see an example so i can have a better grasp of what a good purpose is like for you.

Sam988

Giving you a personal example from how i set a purpose is not going to do anything for you.

I or other's example of a purpose is not going to enable you to set a purpose.

This is something that comes from within you. No one can do this for you. It is something that you need to experience for yourself.

Relax. You are learning a new skill and it is going to take some time. Enjoy the ride.
