It's got to be against some type of etiquette to write about so many topics in one post, but I probably won't be writing again too soon unless I'm just stuck.
First, I want to say that this forum has a tremendous amount of valuable info. About 1-2 weeks ago I read Photoreading (V.3). About the time I finished I began reading this forum from oldest post to last. It took two weeks to get through just five months (December 2000 to May 2001). I believe I probably went through several hundred if not a few thousand posts for that time period alone. My thought was to find posts that provided good advice, motivational material or success stories. There are plenty of all three and this has excited me very much. I Google Notebooked everything I found useful. There probably isn’t a question you have that hasn’t already been answered.
However, it hasn’t done much to stop me from procrastinating. (Procrastination was has been touched upon as well in this DB). I still haven’t photoread more than two books and haven’t yet completed the entire process on either book. Still, I just purchased the CD Deluxe course online tonight. I got a great deal on it using my Brian Tracy newsletter code. It’s time for me to really get to learning and using the system. Time to NOPS. I plan to start by using the 5-day plan. By then, my deluxe CD course should be here. By the way, I purchased the course because of a post I read this statement on this DB: "I was skeptical too but I bought the book. Wow was my response. Later I received the course as a present and the course is the book on steroids.” This was posted by pasharabbit on September 26, 2005. I, for whatever reason, found this to be a powerful statement. I hope that the photoreading begins to work for me before the course comes. The course can only enhance things.
I guess part of the reason I’ve not yet begun to pursue photoreading with vigor is that I have been so busy with so much else. I am a cop working almost 60 hours per week. By the way, I don’t agree with the statement by Paul Scheele that cops have a hard time with this system because it breaks the rules. That just doesn’t make sense to me. You are talking about two very separate things when you refer to the way you learned to read and the rules or laws that society has made for people to follow. I’ve been a cop for 12 years in a very active city and have no problem believing this system works. In fact, I hope to use it when studying for promotional exams.
But I digress. I am also going to school full-time for software engineering. It involves a lot of technical studies and I hope that photoreading will help me study easier, retain more, maintain a high GPA with less effort, and allow me to take more classes at once. Still, I can’t afford to hope that photoreading “clicks” while trying to get good grades. So, while learning photoreading, I must still read “classically” for school. However, I still photoread my textbooks before reading it the old-fashioned way. I do read rather fast as I have done well with Evelyn Wood speedreading.
Another reason I have been busy is preparing for my vacation. My wife and I are leaving for our first trip ever to Disney World on September 12. We will be there 11 days. We are taking our four children and preparation has taken a lot of our time. I am in a way anxious for the trip to be over ONLY because I want more free time to put toward photoreading. Other than that, I hope the trip seems to last forever. I only hope my deluxe course which I ordered online tonight arrives (UPS ground) on or before September 11 because I hope to put it on my iPod before we leave.
Speaking of my four children, we homeschool and our oldest is 9 years old. I hope that I can teach our children photoreading. I’d love to hear the trials, tribulations and other experiences that any of you have teaching your children to photoread.
One more thing. I have always been a huge proponent of self-improvement or motivational audio cassettes or CDs. However, I think there is an exponential amount of info in similar books compared to what is in audio. Additionally, audio is much more expensive and time-consuming. I can probably read the old fashioned way more than 100 times as much as I can listen to in the same amount of time it would take me to read it. Does anyone agree? Your thoughts?
