Forums IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ PhotoReading, Memory Optimizer A question about "Preview" step in 4th Edition

I'm experimenting with 3rd Edition and 4th Edition approaches..."Old vs New", so to speak. (I only have the 3rd Edition).

From what I gather, the changes look like this. (Correct me if I'm wrong).

3rd Edition (2000)
(a) Prepare
(b) Preview (Survey, Trigger words)
(c) Photoread
(d) Activate
(e) Rapid Read (Optional)

4th Edition (2007)
(a) Prepare
(b) Preview (90 sec)
(c) Photoread
(d) Postview (Survey, Trigger words, Mind Probe questions)
(e) Activate (includes Rapid Read now)

For both Editions, Prepare and Photoread remain unchanged.

The Preview step has been changed, according to Alex's posts around the web, its now 90 sec.

This may sound a bit stupid, but since Postview now has "Survey" and "Trigger words", what is Preview for?

I'm not sure what am I supposed to be doing for the 90 seconds in the Preview step. Can anyone clarify? Thanks.

Well in the preview you are doing a few things that are very important.

The first thing is you are surveying the written material. Looking over the cover, spine and back. Then the inside index and the first few pages, charts, graphs and questions.

Then Appraising the value of the material for your purpose and finally reviewing and deciding if you want to go further.

Remember sometimes from a quick look see in your preview you might see that this is not the item for you. Then you can move on to other things.

Remember sometimes a book or material you are photoreading is not rite for you. When you preview you are determining if it is worth going further with this book or item you are going to photoread.

Preview to identify the topic, and check the table of content. It helps build the curiosity that makes activation easier. It's like taking a tiny taste of a new food before taking a whole mouthful before deciding if you want to eat the full serve.
