We're talking about activating a book. I'm trying to help Anthony to define his purpose to help him activate the activation portion of the PhotoReading book. I know it's there because as he said he wouldn't have bought the course if he didn't have one.

Hey Alex,
But people are always talking about how they can read much more after Photoreading. You even said yourself, that your purpose was so that you'd be able to read 3 or 4 novels in a week instead of just 1, didn't you?

Yes we can read much more you might want to see my post on my blog yesterday about this.

Here I was pointing out the way the mind works and why we unwittingly stall ourselves in our goals. We say we want to do one thing and yet we don't look at the cost of making a change.

My personal purpose when I got the course was it gave me the opportunity to read three books a day instead of one. (I was already reading an average of three books a week and not getting anything useful from the exercise).

I had a problem and no one had a solution I figured the answer is out there in a book somewhere. However progress was slow so in learning PhotoReading I thought it would be cool if I could get through three books a day instead of just one I'd reach the finish line faster.

My purpose for learning PhotoReading was to see if I could learn how to get through a book faster so that I can find a solution to my problem.

Next I didn't care if PhotoReading worked or not I knew it's probably up to me one way or the other.

But, my question was, what if I'm given a book, that I have no purpose in photoreading. The book has no purpose to me. What do I do in that case?

If you have to read the book for school for example or the PhotoReading book to learn PhotoReading you must find a purpose.

What was my purpose for the PhotoReading book? To see if I can learn PhotoReading, so that I can improve my live by getting through more than one book a day.

BTW Anthony. This is not the first time nor will it be the last time I've worked with someone to help them to understand the significance of purpose. I was inviting you to think of why you got the course in the first place since somewhere in that there usually was a sound purpose. It is also an exercise for when you have to handle books you have no interest in such as textbooks and required reading. You need to look back to why you started on the path in the first place and from there you can find your purpose.

Thanks for the help. Is my purpose not satisfactory enough yet?

Does your purpose motivate you to activate the PhotoReading book?

Of course my purpose activates me to activate the book. Tomorrow, I'll go over the activating part of the course and see if I can activate the book.

I'm unsure whether this has anything to do with photoreading. But 2 days ago, I photoread a book, "The 8th Habit" by Stephen Covey, with the hope of maybe activating it. I didn't actually activate the book. However, last night, I was watching a program. Funnily enough, the main chapter or idea in the book was "Find your voice". I picked that up when previewing the book. I just realised that the episode of the program I was watching last night (which I don't usually watch) was very much related to this idea, however in a literal way. In fact, they even had a song during the program, that was "Find your voice", exactly the same as the chapter of the book. Could that have had anything to do with photoreading experience. And I must say, it's actually kind of motivated me to really push on in this photoreading course and given me some belief in the system as well as in myself.

Activation happens many ways. I consider that similar to classroom activation where one PhotoRead their course material before class and allowed it to activate within the classroom.

So are you saying that I can photoread material before class and then activate in class. Would I activate it, because in class we have discussions. My question is, do I have to do this one day before class.

Yes, that's why I keep saying PhotoRead all your textbooks at the beginning of the term or semester.

It helps. It also makes it easier for any assignments that follow that particular class discussion. Especially if you were not specifically asked to read that section of the textbook before the class. You have a "pre-conditioned" advantage since the classroom was your second exposure to the information where everyone else heard it for the first time. The other advantage is the element of recognition. The mind is much more enthusiastic toward something it recognises as having seen or know something of before. When it's new it doesn't have the anchors for interests.

Nah, you can do it at the beginning of the semester. Just PhotoRead the textbooks daily for a couple of weeks. It helps train the flipping, getting into the ideal state and photofocus in a playful way on material that is useful for the remainder of the term or year. While it is not necessary to PhotoRead your textbook more than once it's often the most useful books you have lying around for playing with.
