Hell0,

I remember reading on the MO homepage that the MO Course will help one to remember Scripture. Has anyone had any success with this process of remembering Scripture? Or any suggestions?

Tommy

Are you looking to memorize specific passages?

Are you seeking to improve your general memory of scripture?

Tell me exactly what you want, and I'll ask Mrs. Birkenbihl for the strategies that have worked well for others.

Hello Mr Bissonette,

I would love to be able to remember both specific scripture passages and chapters or whole books of the Bible.

One thing you might want to try is using the ABC or Achorman's List (your choice) to hook verses on. You could then, say if you wanted to rember Genesis, Make an Achorman's list of 50 to remember the chapters, ETC.
you might also want to try the story chain method, where you make connections by chaining events together into a story.
I've tried it and it works.
God Bless, Jonah

Here is how Vera says you can memorize quotations, whether from the Bible or other sources:

The easiest was is to first decide what kind of situation you want to USE the info later. Then code that kind of situation (be it tests, smart conversation, speeches, etc.) with the IDEA of the whole passage. What is it about? Who says what to whom and why?

Why do you want want to be able to quote it? You realize, that this brain-friendly THINKING AND PLANNING is the preparation which CREATES NEURAL CONNECTION between the FUTURE situation and the text.

Then, as a final step, we learn the text itself, for instance working by backward, or stringing all nouns (like pearls on a neclace), or making a mental image of this "story line". If you like listening, speak the quotes on tape and listen to the tape multiple times PASSIVELY (softly while doing other things, like the background noise in a restaurant where you HEAR what people at neignboring tables are speaking without really listening, because you are reading, writing, watching tv etc.) This is especially effective when words need to be spoken again later (e.g. in a speech or while in a debate).

===

I had to memorize a 10-minute-ish text recently word for word. I recorded it and played the tape passively in the background for six or so times. Then I played it and followed along with the text speaking at the same time with the voice. I did this a few times.

Then I did not use the text and listened to the tape, speaking a beat off from the tape. After a few times like that I spoke it without the tape or without the text. It took me a couple of times through with a little cheating, but I had the piece memorized.

Thanks Gents for your helpful suggestions. I will endeavor to apply them in my future Bible studies.
