in the brief news on a tv station over viewing PR here , the guy who was guided by Paul Scheele said "he couldn't actually come out with a clear purpose" when he randomly choose to pr the book "accelerated learning".

Din that pr require an effective purpose to get effective result? WHy he can claim that he is successful in PR at the end of the clip?

The purpose thing is bothering me throughout PR. I cannot PR b'cos i hardly come out with any purpose when reading the textbook. My purpose is merely "to pass the test with ease". Is that considered an effective purpose? If we require a purpose only we can start reading, we will not read most of the books!

He was being guided by Paul Scheele the whole time. You need a clear purpose to make sure you know that you're getting what you want from the book when you're on your own.

Apparently, no just to pass a test is not really a good purpose.

At least that's what I've found from my own experience.

It's what you want from the book.

We ALL know that "to pass the test" is the most immediate goal when asked to learn items for school. To learn something worth learning IS an admirable goal.

A goal is not necessary the same as your purpose. Your purpose tells you what you want from the book. Your goal could be just to get information from the book. Your purpose tells you what information that is.

Yes, you could argue that you can use them interchangebly, but I'm trying to help you out. This is from experience, not just random rambling. You can either take the advice or not take it.
Or better yet, try it out for yourself. Test it, play with it. See what works best for you.

At the beginning he didn't have a clear purpose. As he points out that would be be a problem. After PhotoReading and pulling trigger words he naturally clarified his purpose. As pointed out Paul was there to guide him.

As I do for many in my classes. Your first purpose is not necessarily your final purpose nor are you limited to one purpose for a book.



No actually that's not the purpose. The why you want to pass the test therein is the purpose. What you hope to be able to do with the information in the future, therein lies the purpose.

If you're not motivated by the immediate goal you need to find your purpose, why are you studying that?
