PhotoReading is a placebo effect? I wouldn't be hurt by it I just grin and say yeah but I can finish this book in x minutes now, what about you?
I was doing well with PhotoReading and reading and helping out on the forum. At three months I had read many post that suggested that PhotoReading was a placebo effect. I started to wonder too wherever it was just a placebo effect. Well the universe was conspiring to make sure that I stayed with PhotoReading and gave me an assignment.
In 2002 a student studying, year 11 high school, asked me to help him with an assignment. It was a business studies assignment, a subject, I had never done. When he showed me assignment I freaked. I was lucky that I had to go out for my brother's birthday that day so I told him that I would PhotoRead a book on the subject when I came back and help him with his assignment later. He had other assignments to do. Like all good student, this was a Sunday evening and the assignment due Monday.
I came back from the birthday dinner and PhotoRead a book on the subject that I found left behind on my bookshelf by my former buisness partner. Since my student friend was busy with another assignment, I just whiled away the time browsing the Web. He didn't finish his other assignment until midnight. And said he wasn't going to do it. That didn't worry me, as it was his decision. He asked me what I was doing and I told him. Feeling guilty, he asked me again how would I answer that assignment.
About seven hours earlier, when I first saw the assignment. I freaked. I had absolutely no idea how to answer it. The four hours after PhotoReading that book and looking at the assignment again, I just started answering. He asked questions, and I typed answers. (did I mention we were doing this on MSN?)
In 45 minutes, he had transcribed what I wrote into a 1000 word essay and I never opened a book once. No way I typed 1000 words, I wrote the core he had to pad it out. Also he took the opposite view. I was telling him why it wouldn't work and he wrote what was required to make it work.
The next morning, I wondered where the information came from, especially the information about insurance, because I had no prior knowledge about legal requirements for insurance. So I found a book, opened it at random exactly to the 2 1/2 pages on insurance.
That for me was the proof I needed that the PhotoReading step does something at and other than conscious level of mind. How did I know where to open the book, exactly to answer my question, where I learned about the insurance? How did I know how to answer that assignment after PhotoReading, the book. When I didn't know it before?
Out for me was my proof that the PhotoReading the step is not a placebo. A couple of weeks later, I had some more proof, with a Direct Learning experience.
You can prove that a placebo is a useful tool. we know it has saved many lives. If they laugh at you for taking 2 1/2 minutes to turn the pages of a book, first so that you can accelerate your reading, just because they think it's a placebo let them. You will be in the one is more free time and still gets their studying done.
I know the PhotoReading step is not a placebo. If you choose to think it is because it helps you to just do it, then that works too. If you can let go of what others think, and just experience what you get. you will discover, like I did, that there is a lot more to the PhotoReading step than meets the eye.
Oh if you are curious he got 17 out of 20 he lost 3 marks for not following the required essay format. The teacher thought the content was brilliant.
