Hello Everyone,
I have moved on to Course Two of the Effortless Success program. I am filled with a sort of nervous energy.... I have realised that with the tools and resources given it is virtually impossible for me to avoid attaining my goals. That is an exciting-yet-scary scenario. No magic, no secrets, no hocus pocus; just a series of tools and goals to implement and I'll get there. I am suddenly confronted with the fact that it is up to me this time. Do I or don't I want to achieve my dreams and goals?

Secondly I started to work positively on "my dark side". That entails indentifying hidden feelings and subsequently turning around ones limiting beliefs.

FOR THOSE WHO DO NOT WANT TO READ ANYTHING NEGATIVE, QUIT THIS POST NOW.

FOR THOSE WHO ARE TREADING THE SAME PATH AND WANT TO SHARE THE INSIGHTS AND WINS.... READ ON.

As directed I focused on my limiting beliefs. The purpose of digging around in our dark corners is to identify beliefs that "may be resonating at a low energy level and turn it around to raise its vibrational level" in order that we can attract what we truely want.

Limiting beliefs:

* "It's bad / wrong to be attractive i.e. sexy (My mother's belief passed on to me. For some reason she equated sexy with downright disgusting - work that one out if you can!)
* I'm bad at communication (this nugget of wisdom was imparted by Scientology when I was in my late teens. Whenever I have a communication hick-up I find myself wondering if, perhaps, they were right.)
* I can't make / access money (this limiting belief has really 'worked' for me. Remember, what you focus on is what you get. I'm an expert at working for nothing. In fact I have spent the past 17 years working as a volunteer - for free.)
* Even doing my best isn't enough. (I pull this spectre out of the dark recessess any time I really want to give myself a rough time.)
* My husband and I can't work together - we'll just fight (His belief, not mine. However his limiting belief becomes mine by proximity)

I noticed that my limiting beliefs have been given to me by others. I have been aware of their existence, so no real learning here. The real 'aha's came when I started to look at the consequences of those limiting beliefs on my life and how other people's ERRONEOUS beliefs have limited my decisions.

Is there anyone out there doing ES course 2?
Enjoy the growth and expansion,
French Claire

Wow... I love your very candid confession to the world! I am sure you are on the right track as you keep working on the course steadily.

What I find very tricky to overcome is the gap between understanding a problem I have (NB this is not too difficult since I have read extensively about personal development over the last few years) and overcoming it, ie changing your belief or habit. I think at time going back to some key Paraliminal can help. Alternatively, some EFT work can also assist.

I also find that once I discover a problem and solve it, a new one pops out. I guess it will just take a months up to an year or so to put it all together.

Well done, French Claire!! We are all with you!!!!

My dear Uniquesoul,
(I am so enjoying getting to know each new facet you present to me!)
To clarify: my 'confession' is not about washing dirty linen in public. There is something powerful in writing down my processes. I intend for this to work. Hence I will do what it takes to get there. If my journey or my words support someone else, then there is an added value.

I appreciate exactly what you are saying about the 'consuming' of personal development concepts/products, and actually living them. During my psychology training, I found a lot of evidence that it takes at least 30 days (of daily practise) to create a habit (6 weeks is better), but one missed session basically kills off those new, budding neural pathways, and so all previous effort is wasted. You have to start afresh. I found references to exactly this research in ES also. Astronauts wore goggles that turned the world upside-down. The trick was to stay at it for a minimum of 30 days. Those who for some reason removed the goggles were transported back to the starting point. They had to restart the whole process. There seems to be a neurological basis to this. So understanding a concept or problem is just the starting point. We need to consistently practise new behaviour over a sustained period to harvest results.

Regarding having a fresh problem pop out every time you solve one.... sounds uninviting. I suggest you rewrite that program! I am sure you would prefer to be an expert problem-solver than a reliable problem-creator!!

A nice solution pops into my mind. Jack (see I really am doing the ES course with my heart and soul) says to do a daily review which may really provide great insights into your problem-generation program.

Here's how it works (Effortless Success Course one Page 52 & 53):
During a quiet meditation ask yourself:
a) How you were successful today (Note, Uniquesoul, the emphasis on success and problem solving!)? Use the phrase "I was successful today when I...."
b) Next note times when you were out of alignment with your purpose, intentions, or preferred way of being.
Use the phrase " I was out of alignment when I ............."
c) Record ways you could have been more effective in being who you are or creating what you want:
"I could have been more effective if I had....."

I did this exercise after a dreadful, stress-filled, out-of-control day. I was amazed at how this exercise changed my attitude to the day's events. I was startled at how much I had done and achieved. I noticed that I had just focused on the out-of-my-control stuff. And by finding one or two things that I could do better next time round, I had changed to a positive and solution-orientated mindset. Jack calls this changing your inner critic to an inner coach. It works. Sadly, I have yet to do it daily.

Thank you so much for your insights and support. They help me stay on track.
Ti abbraccio,
French Claire

The 30 days concept of applying a technique to bring matters to fruition is also accepted in all personal development techniques. It is the time required to form a new habit.

I still believe that once you have achieved a goal through a new program, then a new one will pop out. In my view personal development ends only with the end of a person's life. We are highly complex organisms, so there is still a way to improve our lives. However, it is of paramount importance we look back where we came from and celebrate our achievements. The problems are a combination of what's in us and outside us. We are only control ourselves, not the rest around us.

I am always wondering whether our "teachers" do apply what they teach us to themselves.

Hey there Uniquesoul,
Thank you for your response. I really appreciate how you take the time and effort to respond to me and others. This makes this forum worth returning to... always something happening!

I genuinely believe that Jack Canfield does implement what he teaches. I feel his sincerity (and sometimes get irritated at his tendency to repetitiveness) when he speaks. I think this course is actually an analysis of his success-generating process. I believe the course is based upon his personal experience of how he became successful.

I have absolutely no doubt that if I follow his instructions I will become extremely successful.... just I have a lot to learn, some growing to do in order to embrace those big dreams, and some bad habits (negative self-talk for example) to lose before I really start to make earth-shaking progress.

I haven't actually ever watched "THE SECRET" because my rational mind refuses to accept the 'secret' concept. I dislike hocus-pocus, false information, and pride myself on having developed a scientific mindset. While I appreciate spontaneous ideas, going with the flow, letting the universe deliver etc, I personally do not want to induce my success through quasi-secret steps. I find Jack's rational, step-by-step approach to be exacly what I need.

Do the others practise what they preach? Couldn't hazard even a guess. It probably depends on how effective and practicable what they teach is. However, looking at the universe, people who CONSISTENTLY eat wholesome food in moderate quantities usually look better than those who over-indulge and ill-indulge. Similarly those who set goals and CONSISTENTLY work towards them are more likely to reach them than those who merely visualise an outcome and let the universe deliver. If we get physical exercise CONSISTENTLY we look better, feel better and are fitter than when we don't exercise. So I believe that if I consistently work towards my success (five steps a day is suggested), then over time I will definitely occupy a different life-space.
Take care,
French Claire

I believe most courses teach fairly obvious, good habits, which most of us have not picked up for various reasons previously in our lives. Those who have picked them up from other sources apart from personal development courses, have succeeded. It's enough for us to look at famous enterpreneurs who did not inherit their businesses through the family.

I totally agree with your capitals about consistency. This is the key. Then it becomes a matter of personal choice which courses we follow to become successfull. ES is a very good one.

I watched part of "The Secret" movie, as I kept falling asleep. At that stage I was already into personal development, so I felt that the movie was irrelevant for me.

Whether other gurus follow what they preach, it is tricky to assess. Lots of these gurus engage into strong marketing strategies to reach the success they use to demonstrate how effective their teachings are. I would think that, if a guru develops an illness like cancer, which always has strong emotional components, then I would take that as a proof that the guru is not applying his principles to a great extent.

Don't get me started on 'The Secret'!

Nothing but a tacky marketing gimmick!

Hi Inchiki
If you don't think that the secret was worthwhile, what kinds of things do you think are better to "catch the eye" of the general public and introduce the field of personal growth?

Hi Uniquesoul,
(I know you now and my bet is you will have read this within 12 hours!!)
I was re-reading this thread and noticed something that I would like to draw your attention to. In your post of 14 April you talked about dealing with one problem only to have it replaced by another. I disagree and definitely don't want this reality.

In your subsequent post you changed the word 'problem' to 'goal'. I certainly agree with this concept. One step up the mountain changes the vista and new challenges are out there to take .... or leave .... or avoid...... or embrace.

Bless you and say hello to a cane toad from me. Wish I were there in Oz for a holiday.

After you remove a problem, you don't really know what will be next. You know you have released that problem, but you do not really know if it will return and you will need to release again. Hale mentions in the Sedona course that he had to release a lot until he and his wife were able to be together.

Cane toads are pests and harmful to native wildlife. I destroy them humanely (captured alive and put inside the freezer).
