Textbook. Once you've learned the system on a few regular 200 to 250 page non-fiction books you can move on to applying the system on learning material like textooks.

Treat each chapter of a text book like a book in itself. That means activate the chapter until you have finished with that chapter.

Textbooks take longer than light non fiction books. You can expect to spend 25 to 100 hours with them when traditionally reading them (that's why you usually have the one book for the year and sometimes 3 years).

The steps for textbooks. PhotoRead the whole textbook at the beginning of the school year (when you first get them.) You may PhotoRead them once a day for a couple of weeks. Some of it will be activated in the classroom other will be activated as assigned.

When it comes to activating assigned chapters PhotoRead tthose chapters again just before activation. Include 2 chapters before and 2 chapters after the chapter/s requires. Activate until it gels using layers and mind probing questions. You might find skittering or a combination of superreading and skittering works better for academic writing.

Now my question is WHY do you have to read the whole textbook?
Is this the case in a class like mine where I know exactly what questions need to be answered in each chapter?

What I was thinking of doing was just applying the photoreading system to the chapters that pertained to what I need for school at that given moment. Is that feasible or should I follow the steps above?

To answer the questions at the end of your post - Why should you read the whole text instead of a chapter or section - Well, the goal is to really create new neural connections and associations. Exposing your brain to the entire text helps to lay down the tracks for more complete information processing, not just fragmented pieces of information.

Now you may only need to use certain sections to fulfill on your assignment, and that's cool, and yet, you never know when some of that other information may be required, relevant or useful to you in the future.

Having at least created some level of awareness and familiarity through the PhotoReading process will serve you in the long run.

Yes you can very well just PhotoRead sections, and I'd suggest that you stick to the system. It is easy to do and once you get used to it as a part of your study habits, it will be second nature.
