I know I just entered a topic about Get Around to It, but I wanted some more advice about time management. I can't seem to ever be on top of my work and I know it is a negative, self-destructive pattern. For isntance, yesterday I wasted many hours doing various things, most of which were moderately enjoyable, but I avoided the task at hand. Then when I got around to my homework, I had to stay up almost all night to get it done, and when I went to go take a couple hour "nap" before my first class, I slept through it and missed the day I was supposed to present.

The details aren't important, besides being a horrific experience, I just don't understand why I have so much resistance from prioritizing what I'm doing at a given moment. Is it because I know that if I start working, I will never finish in time to have relaxing, enjoyable time left over? Or is it a destructive pattern that builds on itself?

I got "Get Around to It" last term because I recognized this destructive pattern (when it comes to schoolwork, when it comes to other things - I don't tend to procrastinate as much), and I listened to it a lot last term - which seemed to help, and this term, as I mentioned, I've listened to itt several times (but mostly while asleep, although since Alex's responses - I have listened to it while awake once).

My question is - should I keep going with "Get Around to it" or is there something else, more powerful that i can work with?

I recommend the book First Things First.

Not everyone has a knack for using a day planner and even using the paraliminals Get around to it or Automatic Pilot don't win if we always find ourselves handling the things that suddenly come up that are urgent.

That book gives you an idea or what you need to look at and prioritise so that you give time to the important things that often get overlooked during our day until they become urgent or lost.

Also give the Paraliminal Anxiety Free a shot if you have it. Part of the reason we put off doing things we know we should be doing is because they either overwhelm us or are giving us some sort of anxiety about doing them (how long it's going to take, getting it right, not having everything you need, another task associated with it that needs to be addessed?)

I will second that call on reading First Things First. Ii is a powerful book on getting things done, preferably that which is most important to you.

Another book highly worth looking at is Kathy Kolbe's Powered By Instinct. Where First Things First will tell you what to get done first, Kolbe will reveal to you how you will naturally take action to get things done.

You can check her website out for more details. www.kolbe.com

Both have been a tremendous help to me.

Good luck.
