I was wondering, if we don't know how our role model does it. How can we make their good trait our own? Thanks in advance for any responses Patrick

You don't need to know how they do it. Just that they do what you want to do. That's how we learned growing up we observed those around us and mirrored them out mind worked out the rest. Alex

It's a weird thing in NLP, but the use of modles is considered an intrinsic skill. It's explained in some detail in the Borrowed Genius section of "the Einstein Factor." An interesting corelation... Edger Allen Poe observed that he could guess the mood, and even the thoughts, of a person by mirroring their posture and expression. Recently, the neurological mechanism for this was discovered... "mirror neurons." Just as there is no real seperation between the brain and the mind, there's no real seperation between the mind and the body. In other words, to bend it like Beckham, bend it like Beckman.

Patrick, If you can reason that: 1) your subconscious mind picks up on millions more bits of information than your conscious mind all the time. 2) you can recall anything that you have previously experienced, take for instance, regression under hypnosis. 3) the reason you were able to identify that behavior in your role model is because on some level you have knowledge of that behavior from previous experiences. then you can tell yourself that you actually do know how your role model does it, but not all consciously. If you can identify a behavior in another person then it is likely that your subconscious mind has enough information for you to model that behaviour. It has been said many times (eg. Debbie Ford - The Dark Side of the Light Chasers) that we can see in others what is true for ourselves, maybe only if partly. The reality that is out there, ie that which we see in other people, is actually largely based on our own maps of the world. We are seeing a reflection of ourselves. Listening to Instantaneous Personal Magnetism or New Behaviour Generator is just moving, collecting and piecing together parts of ourselves so that they become an integrated new behavior. A quote from Wayne Dyer: "You'll see it when you believe it!" When the student is ready, the teacher will appear. You won't be able to see the behaviour in your role model if you weren't somehow ready to see it, ie. if you already didn't know a lot about that behavior.

This topic is awesome! It ties in with my questions about Affirmations, only better. Instead of affirming that I can take pride in the mundane, I can model it and make it part of my life at a much deeper level. I brought up the questions about affirmations, because I sat next to someone on a flight this Monday. He gave a lot of advice on motivation and suggested the affirmations. I liked his suggestions, because he was an excellent example (role model) of putting the motivations to use. Since I had lengthy conversations with him (our plane was stuck on the ground for 4 hours before take off - talk about lucky!), I should have enough material with which to model my new behaviors and instantaneous personal magnetism. Sweet! Thanks to Alex, Kaiden and Grant for the great explanations! Thanks to yrtsimehc for asking the question!

(our plane was stuck on the ground for 4 hours before take off - talk about lucky!) eplunk3742 that is one sweet reframe. Most people would be too upset being stuck on a plane on the ground to learn something from the people around them. I think I'll learn from your example and start using the affirmation "I learn from everyone I come in contact with" and "I make the best of every situation" Inspiring post. George

Alex I see most people use George Clooney and Pierce Brosnan. My problem is that recently I do not watch TV or see movies. So their image/magnetism is not vivid in me. And I cannot think of any idol that means much to me right now. Also, I do have a DVD of George Clooney that I can watch, but it is a more serious movie ("Solaris") and he does not display these characteristics there. You think it will helpo though if I watch it before the IPM? Also, let's say I want to aquire the skill to be able to walk up and talk to girls, pick them up. I have a friend that is so good at talking to strangers/girls. We used to hung out last year but he got married now. Should I think of him before listening to IPM? Would this work? Also, what if I watch an instructional video from some PickUp/Seduction guru, then listen to IPM? Would this give me their magnetism/abilities? Thanks Bob video

Hi George, quote: Originally posted by gwhutton: I think I'll learn from your example and start using the affirmation "I learn from everyone I come in contact with" and "I make the best of every situation"
I think we'll need to be a bit more careful about giving affirmations to our inner mind - it will take your suggestions "as is" as I have seen. For example, "I learn (what?) from every (positive) person I come in contact with" ... expand on those and be specific. We have all of these energy fields around us and our brain is emmitting & receiving all types of brain waves/signals - so we do interact with people around us and even people that are not around us. Like, when my mom thinks about someone, she either meets that person or gets a call from that person (me too, but with less frequency). Our thoughts have a lot to do with where we are in life. Playing an affirmation tape/cd/mp3 in the background when we are not paying much attention to it makes it work faster. How about playing it (softly) when we go to bed? As our minds go from beta to alpha to theta, our own affirmation (let's say 30-45 mins tape) will help us even more as it is our own voice. Comments?

Use the person that most resonates with you. It doesn't have to be the same person others use. If you know someome who had the quality that you would like to adopt (it can even be you on occasions in the past) use that. It can even be a stranger you happen to ride in an elevator with. If you recognise the quality then that's all you need. If you wanted to acquire the sill of being able to walk up to girls and chat to them and get them to go out with you. Model someone who does that well in the venue you usually frequent. You don't need to know their name just observe the action of a person doing what you want to do, successfuly. Alex

Generally speaking, unless you have a great deal of difficulty getting to sleep, your mind enters the alpha area within a minute or so of putting head on the pillow. As we drift to sleep, the alpha stage lasts approximately 5 minutes and the theta stage last generally 10 to 15 minutes, deepening to upper delta. So creating a CD with audible suggestions or affirmations to be played at bedtime, there is not much sense in creating something longer than 20 to 25 minutes (because after that you are in delta). Put some nice relaxing music (include gongs, rain, waterfalls, ocean waves, etc.) for the first 2 to 3 minutes, and gently move the voice into place. Audible suggestions in your own voice actually work more powerfully than subliminal, as there is some question as to whether or not there is actual "inner" hearing of these once we reach delta. If you create a CD that is to be re-played continually during the night, suggest that you put another 25 to 30 minutes of just soft sound, connecting back to the original sound when it begins replay, and then you more than likely will hit the sleep cyles as they cyle through the theta and back into delta throughout the night. If you notice, the CD's that Paul does are rarely more than 25 minutes long. What I've noticed using the "sleep" track at night is that as I cycle in and out of sleep, sometimes I do hear the message, and sometimes I'm just not there for it - and occasionally drift back into it part of the way through. That's where I've picked up on how how long to create the homemade CD. Cheers! Unis
