Am I better off having the furniture I sit or sleep on in my fortune colors or in colors that work with the direction in which they are located?
For example, the entry to my living room is in the Northeast and my best directions are South, North, East and Southeast. If I'm understanding things correctly, that would mean my power position would be facing North so I have a clear view of the doorway in the NE and North is a good direction for me, with my chair in the South and its back toward the South wall. My fortune element is metal. So would I want the chair to be a fire color for the South because that's where it's located, a metal color because of my fortune element or should it have both types of colors? Alternatively, should it be something like brown that could be interpreted as wood or earth which support fire and metal (although I'm not fond of brown for upholstery). Same sort of question for my bed, although there are more options there because I could have a metal color bedspread and fire color throw pillows (head of the bed will be South once I move it).

Hi Michelle,
It always great to go of neutral colours in furniture and use accessories to add a pop of colour.
When choosing the accessories and decorative items, use the colours that relate to that direction. This way you cure each element effectively.
Simply add more of the colours that relate to your fortune element, such as a red throw rug on the chair that is positioned in the south. It will be more dominating, add a pop of colour and be in alignment with your fortune colours.
Remember not to become a Feng Shui Nazi. This will simply end up driving you crazy!

Thanks for the advice. I'm not trying to be fanatic about it. I'm just planning to get a nice solid chair and have some color options. Also, neutrals are associated with elements too.  In addition, this was something of a theory question. If I can get a grip on the underlying theory, then I can make better decisions. Since the walls and ceilings are all white, I have quite a bit of my fortune element around anyway. It's handy to be metal when you live in a rental.

Dear Michelle_GW,
I can appreciate a good chair Think balance. You'll have all the elements represented in your rooms anyway - what do you notice about the room, what's the initial feeling of the room when you enter rather than tallying up the individual elements represented?
Look at the decor and style of the home and room. We want the size, style and even color of an item to bring balance the to room, unless it's the focal point.
The neutral colors, although they fall into the elements continuum to some degree, tend to not over state themselves "element-wise" in a room.
What color feels right in that room? How does that fit into the main element/supportive element for that sector of the house?
Fortune element colors are used more as a small accent or sparkle.

I have noticed that Marie takes to the account the 20 year feng shui when choosing colours. Time feng shui brings the dynamics when space feng shui provides the grounding. Ideally both of them should be considered, especially that in some cases you may come across some contradictions. For instance, in a house with front door E1 in period 8. There is a disaster star in the south. If you use a lot of warm shades of fire (according to space feng shui) you will stimulate the negative aspect of the disaster star. The earth tones are not good either as they support the negative 25 combination. In this case we use green and little bit of metal here - from the time feng shui point of view. Of course the space feng shui needs to be activated as well, but warm, bright colours would make here max 25% of all colours. As time feng shui works faster than space feng shui, it is worth taking into consideration, if only to avoid stimulating unknowingly the negative flaying star potential.
In feng shui the earth tones are considered neutral, the best are the shades of yellow, people use beige as well. It is a safe option but often does not bring out the whole potential of a room/space. When there are neutral colours in the whole house, or a lot of beige, the house becomes too yin. Walls and furniture have big surface, so the right colours can have a big, positive influence on your feng shui. Colours, especially Quantum Colours carry messages about certain aspect related to the 4 Pillars of Life (for instance emerald green – health). By using them in your home you invite them into your life in a visible way.
