I use earbud headphones, and I often forget to check to make sure I have the left bud in the left ear and the right bud in the right ear before I start listening. I then get partway through the session, and stop to check that I have the correct bud in each ear.

My question is, does it matter? If not, I can stop worrying about it and just listen.

I wouldn't worry about it. Paul does a check at the beginning of many of the Paraliminals. That's a good opportunity to switch them to the correct ear. If you miss it because your mind is already wandering, let it go. It gives a different experience and the information is still processed by the brain.
