I am new at IS'ing. I clip a microphone to my shirt collar, lay down, put my headphones on and listen to Wenger. When I close my eyes and start describing what I see, I feel like I must be doing something wrong because everything is just abstract gobble-de-gook. Colored spots, black background. Lazer beam-like lines, shades of grey. The Scene changes throughout the stream, but it is just more of the same. I feel like I am repeating my self over and over again when I listen to the recording. Am I missing something? Do any of you have advice on how to get more out of this practice? I look forward to reading the advice any of you have to offer.
Thanks,
Chris

If those image streams are boring you try the what if game. What if I were in a garden? What if I were a duck in flight what would I see? You have to be quick to grab that flash of an insight... you might respond with flying over a red desert... rocks everywhere in different shades of orange and read, oh little tuffs of long thin bladed grass.. a yellowish shade like an underripe banana. Theres a small trickle of water flowing....

Sorry got carried away there.

They do come up we are just in the habit of discrediting them because the don't have the same intensity of our waking sight and they are so quick and fleeting hence the need to talk quickly and out loud. The more we talk about it the more we seem to be cleaning the window that we are lookng through to see our images and as we stop talking the window seems to fog over again.

I think what Alex says is true for me too - when I stop relating what I am seeing the "window" fogs over. That's when I get the swirling greys and fancy whirls, mostly on the back of my eye lids.

I play the "where shall I go this time" game, if you will. I go with whatever scene first comes to mind, and not decide that I don't want that one. It came for a reason, so go with it. Then I just start imagining things there, or action happening. Go with whatever comes to mind - if you speak it out loud you really don't have time to decide in your head that nahhh... I don't think that's an important image. The more I let the scene play out, the more that happens. After I get going there is little repetition. I am to the point where I am starting to see reoccuring patterns - where my mind/thoughts tend to wander to. And then there are those sudden flashes of a single image that just pop in by themselves.

Now to put them all together and figure out what they mean!

I'm getting closer!

If I understand you correctly, when I play the games it will prime my thoghts to stream with more meaning.
I have been trying to keep my concious thoughts from interfering. What you suggest is similar to over the wall. Thanks, I will try it.

At the risk of taking the original post too literally....

You might also try to be aware of the other experiences in the stream. So, you're seeing patches of color and lines. What can you hear? What can you feel? Smell? Taste?

These are all part of the "image"stream.
