Has any other human being besides Budda achieved enlightenment? If so, are there any that are alive today?

There have been several who have been purported to be enlightened and have developed significant followings. Some 20th century examples are Ramana Maharshi and Nisargadata Maharaj, both dead now. I am sure that many claim to be now and aren't and there are most likely some who are and are not telling.

Some who are alive now and worth looking into who have good things to pass along and may or may not be enlightened. How do you really determine if they are anyway??

Some who appear to have undergone some sort of transformation.
Eckhart Tolle??
Francis Lucille??
Jean Klein (deceased)
Gangaji????????
Papaji (deceased)
Robert Adams (deceased)
Lester Levinson (deceased)
Ramesh Balsekar???

If I had to pick one "individual" to read about and gain insight from it would be Ramana Maharshi. Do a search and see what you find.

Do what thou wilt.
If you are truly seeking "enlightenment" you should read the works of Aleister Crowley. He was (is?) a brilliant man, and deffinitly worthy of the tittle of 'enlightened'. All of his works are worthy of intense study.
There are many "enlightened" people alive today and they belong to the order of
A.'.A.'.
Love is the law, love under will.

A. Crowley founded an order, an offshoot of the hermetic order of the Golden Dawn, called the Silver Star, which in latin has the initials A.'A.' Crowley had an interesting system of magick, which has been further expanded upon/refined by such modern authors as Israel Regardie, Christopher Hyatt, and Robert Anton Wilson.

One thing of interest is Crowley's connections relationship to the modern religion of Wicca, along with the O.T.O. roots of Gardnerian Wicca.

I really do not see what Magick has to do with enlightenment?

Where to begin? First off Crowley didn't found the A.'.A.'., it always was and always will be. He merely gave it an outwards structure through which people may physically aspire to attainment. It is not an offshoot of the Golden Dawn, it is infact vise versa.
Crowley's writing have not been "further expanded upon/refined" by those men; his writings stand alone amongst litterature, they are untouchable -literally. These men have perhaps simplified them, thats all.
I'm quite curious to see the relations that you have found between Magick and wicca. Also I had no idea that the O.T.O. had roots in Gardnerian Wicca. I'd be quite interested to talk this over with you, you can email me if you like.

What does Magick have to do with enlightenment? Magick is any act of love under will, the mariage of opposites in divine ecstacy. "Enlightenment" is gained through the realization of the continuity of existence, the union with Naught. That must be done with Love under will, which is, by definition, Magick.

Love is the law, love under will.

Logo,

Since this thread has gotten a bit off track I suggest you do a search on the individuals mentioned or any others that are suggested to be enlightened.

Be aware of wordy convoluted writings and structures that encourage "paths" to follow or laws to abide by. Pursuit of objects of desire somehow promoted as a way to enlightenment.

Enlightenment is simple, clear and the fewer words used to point to it the better. In fact the use of no words at all is the only true description and the highest teachings are silent teachings. Ramana Maharshi who's silence had a tremendous power over those in his presence was a prime example.

Anyone who purports to have or encourages the cultivation of special powers or "sidhis" is leading you further astray. These are merely more objects of desire. No different than seeking that shiny new sports car.

Free will is an illusion and anyone who claims enlightenment and also indicates that it can some how be attained through some effort of will has completely missed the boat. Enlightenment is the complete absense of an individual who would have such a will and the illusion of that individual is the root of the problem.

Best of luck sorting it out!!

Ramana did plenty of talking, writing & translating. He did not live his life in total silence.

Beautiful definition.

Magick is said to come from the Sanskrit term "maha" which translates as "great."
