Sleep. Statistically, we spend about a third of our lives in slumberland. A third. By age 70, we will have clocked roughly 23 years and four months of it. Thats quite a lot of time to spend doing something we don't yet fully understand.
So, what do we know about this activity/altered state? Well, theres some rejuvination going on. Chemical levels are being reset too. Then there are the ever mysterious dreams. Partly the reorganisation on information & intergration of the past day's input with past experiences/knowledge, partly problem-solving. What about dreams of events that later manifest themselves in our waking lives? Anything else? Bears pondering, no?
Anyone know anything more about our (arguably) most compelling and least understood pastime? Please share.
Be well.
