Hey all
Everytime I try to image stream I feel as if i am forcing the images from my conscious mind only. I feel as if my subconscious mind plays no active role in the process.

Also, if for some strange reason an image that I didn't seem to force appears randomly, its either interrupted me talking and i must cut myself off from the other image or it doesn't seem to stay long.

Some days are rare, however. I sometimes get images, but they are too quick for me to take time and describe them. By the time i start to talk about the iamge, it has faded onto something else.

I also feel as if i am a very poor details man. My descriptions always seem to be too vague and not very descriptive at all.

Any tips?

To stop the images from fading quickly you need to keep talking if you can avoid it don't label what you see like house, ask yourelf what is it made of, what colour is it, how big is it, where is it, when have you seen something similar, how does it feel? Is there any sounds you can hear, does it give you an underlying sense of emotion (that's a difficult one so don't get hung up on it). Some time the image turns black before you have fully described it then call on what you remember of it. It will usually bring back that image.

If you feel you're forcing it start your image stream with a remembered dream, if the dream was vivid great start with that, even if it was only a part of a dream. As for the feeling that the subconscious is providing nothing... when does the subconscious ever really make itself felt? When you image stream it is a consious act and the conscious mind has always been the one that appears to make the decision what comes next but really... where did the idea come from?

Keep going with it, it takes a few days to get over the talking out loud self consciousness.

So If an image starts to change to something else, i should simply cut myself off and focus on the new image immediately? Also, a lot of times the same images keep reoccuring, like my stream has its limits. Do you think if I am somewhere where speaking out loud is a problem, I could also obtain benefits by simply image streaming without talking out loud??

Interested in your reply. Thanks for your time Alex. Keep up the good work.

As a new image starts to develop start describing it as it unfolds. Even when talking to a tape recorder I find it helps if I think of someone as listening for me. So when a new image starts forming I start telling them about it.

When images show up again in the image stream describe it in other ways. if you focused on colour maybe you still need to cover how angular or curved it is, it's size and vibrance may have changed look for stubtle clues like that too.

If you have similiar images showing up from image stream to image stream that cool. Your mind is starting to help you uncover the code. It won't be that unusual for image streams to almost be the same on many occasions, especially if you're asking the same question over and over. You'll give yourself a more creative license when you are okay with the images being similar and then give yourself permission to make it up.

One of the most effective ways I learned to visualise was to stand infront of a painting look at it for 20 to 30 seconds and then close my eyes to see what I could "remember" or see with my minds eye, opened my eyes for 10 seconds and do it again. The whole exercise took about 10 minutes but it helped me to change my belief that I couldn't see images in my minds eye. I learned *how* I see them in my minds eye.

If you're somewhere where speaking out loud is a problem then you might get creative and pretend you're telling someone a book chapter, or scene from a game over the phone. There are some neat phones that have recorders.

However only doing it in your mind does not have the benefir nor does it give you anything solid for decoding. Win Wenger has not found anyone having success with it and I personally find that the mind wanders off to easily.
You could try an alternative Image Stream by writing... that is write the image stream and for decoding/debriefing close your eyes and review, it helps if you can talk it then but you may be able to do that when it's more convienient to do so. Somewhere along the line you will want to talk it out loud.

Its a sad thing but I firmly believe that when I was a kid I was a natural ISer. I would always think in pictures and let my mind just wander far far away. I can remember that it always took me awhile to "get" something that was trying to be taught to me. My visual thought process would run free and try to understand the concept and eventually it would. Once I had it, I could get creative with it and knew the concept perfectly! It was very exciting.

But somewhere along the line my thought patterns have changed. I think in images rarely, and they aren't very vivid ones and they are too general really. I am hoping that image streaming can turn me into a kid again!

Anyways, I will try the painting thing perhaps. Also you pointed out that I shouldn't just say what the image is, but rather describe it until its understood what it is. Thats a BIG problem for me. I will try to describe these familiar images in a new light, also. Thanks for your advice!

I was curious as to what type of questions you ask your IS?

Mine are usually thrown into a High Think Tank. Often business related as to what to do next what I should focus on doing, where something is headed.

It you're having trouble describing things bit by bit and rapidly able to label them it's a sure fire indication that you have a very quick mind. One of the reasons it appears that images do not come whereas your mind has overtaken the whole process. That's one of the reasons for talking out loud it forces the mind to slow down a bit so that you can see all the options.

That makes sense because I can picture images in rapid succession if i try to, and when i am talking it does slow things down a lot and i guess my mind just tries to jump around too much. Since i have finally started ISing again for the past few days I can already see a little difference in my thinking. I seem to picture things and associate a little better. For example, earlier today i was playing an online game and someones name was "Borax". The word immediately triggered my chemistry lab at high school and I thought of doing the "Borax Bead Test" instantly. I could see the white borax powder, my wire heating up in the bunsen flame, and i could hear the hot wire being pushed into the borax powder and that great "ssssssss" sound. I think that being able to associate like this improves ones memory and ISing seems to help the entire process.
