What is the difference between Focusing and Open Focus, are they pretty much the same? Which method do you prefer for clearing and intergrating?

Focussing usually refers to pin-point type attention on one stimulus until blankout occurs. Open focus refers to thinking about the distance between the eyes then the ears, then attending to the heaviness of your arms or feet. Also switching modalities i.e. visual auditory, kinesthetic. Simular to autogenics and Ericson hypnosis. Can produce profound trance states(alpha/theta)Requires less strain than attending to a mantra, or other single stimulus.

Thipdar, I think you misunderstood my question. Focusing and Open Focus are actual methods of clearing stress, trauma, etc. Focusing was developed by Eugene T. Gendlin Ph.D. and the creator of Open Focus is Dr. Les Fehmi. I would like to know the similarities and differences between the two methods.

I cannot speak about Focusing because I have no experience with it.

I can say that Open Focus is basically a kind of focusing that contains components of strict, focused attention and spacey, peripheral, day-dreamiy attention.

The result is a both/and sort of attention which does not overly emphasize either direction but uses both.

It is a rather pleasant state of mind and perhaps would be of great use to someone with the will to develop it sufficiently. People who practice the martial arts competently sometimes describe the quality of their attention in ways that lead me to think they are in open focus.

The name is pretty descriptive. Open and focused simultaneously.
