AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
OK. I'm sorry. But does anyone else identify this as the BLOODY MARY urban myth?!??!!??!

Maybe it's a generational thing, but my generation (I'm in HS now) used this technique to scare eachother senseless when we were in Grammar school.
I know it's really chicken of me, especially since I've never tried it myself. But if you've seen the horrified faces of people who have, you would understand a little better
. I'm all for confronting shadows, it's the only way to know yourself, but people should only confront ("meet" i should say) their shadows when they are ready. I'm not, I'm too scared.
I love seeking new techniques of the brain, but this is exact technique has tramatized me since I was a child. I don't know if I have the courage to attempt it! (I'm such a chicken
). I know it says that it's just my face, my shadows, and I only really need to fear seeing my true self, but still, I have so much fear associated with this technique taht I don't think i can do it.
I'm also afriad of teh consequences. There's what to do when i meet those "faces." In Star Wars, Luke met his shadow (The Darth Vader in the Cave), and blew it!(He wasn't supposed to fight at all, esp w/ anger) I don't want to blow it, miss my meaning for the meeting
.
Now a question: Whoever knew the person who wrote it, could you ask him if it will still be effective with a group of trusted friends?
Thanks
FYI if you don't know the Bloody Mary Myth:
(This is to the best of knowledge as I have heard it)
Ok. Well, the actual Bloody Mary is Queen Mary of England after Henry VIII. Her being Catholic, took the throne and ordered all non catholics to be burned.
As for the Urban Legend:
There was some mean lady who killed people (not sure if it was the mary named above). Someone killed her while she was looking at herself in the mirror. Supposedly her soul was absorbed into mirrors.
What kids did:
A group of kids, or solo, would get by a mirror and stare into it with minial light. (As described exactly in the exercise). Next, chant "Bloody Mary" 7 times. The changing faces were not your shadows, but Bloody Mary standing behind you with a knife. It was especially scary cuz you couldn't get rid of the vision.
The fear was propagandized with stunts and stories set up by the older children. ( I know they're just stories, but it's interesting how the fear, no matter how unrational, will stick with you). I heard stories of people dissapearing. I remember someone had trapped 2 girls in the girls bathroom and spread blood (ketchup) on the walls. I cannot convey the fear. I remember other ocasions of trapping someone in the bathroom and flickering the lights and making noises, very tramautizing.
However, now that I know that it is not Mary, and that there is another explanation of the phenomenon, I may find enough courage. But don't count on any posts from me about doing it
. Thanks for reading!
(HEHE i had to go through my message adding the appropriate smilies!)
