I'd like to propose an interesting challenge/experiment to the forum. I propose that volunteers read "Absalom Absalom!" by William Faulkner and then open up a discussion about your experiences with the book. It's a short book of about 300 pages, so it shouldn't take too long to read. I'm interested in the levels of comprehension that can be achieved by members of this forum. When you post about your experiences with the book, I'd like to see how long it took you to read it, what steps you took to read it, how well you feel you comprehend it, and any other bits of information you think would be interesting to other forum readers.

I'm hoping many of you take part in this little experiment. "Absalom Absalom!" is one of the best novels of the century, so you can't go wrong reading it anyway.

You will have to wait QUITE a long time before you see any replies to this. :-) And don't expect them today either. Maybe in another month, and when you ask a question, be sure to know that most people cheat - basically - they will have an open book when they type the answer here on this forum.

My experiment isn't to see if the photoreading system works. I know it does, because it works for me. The purpose of the experiment is to see how people's experiences vary with "Absalom Absalom!" in particular. Faulkner's style is quite interesting and I'd like to see how other readers tackle his style.

You mentioned cheating. Well, I just don't see how anyone can cheat on this experiment. I just want to hear about other people's experiences with the novel. There are no good nor bad responses. I'm just interested in honest ones (I'm sure I'll be able to weed out the dishonest ones.) It really doesn't matter at all if they have an open book in front of them or not. Also, if it takes months, then be it. I'm in no hurry. I don't consider reading to be something that we get tested on and do well on or do poorly on. I consider it a way of learning about and enjoying the universe and accept that some people are better at it than others. My aim isn't to be the best reader; it's to be the best enjoyer of reading.

Have you read "Absalom Absalom!" (or "The Sound and the Fury")? If so, I'd be interested in hearing what you have to say about your experiences with it. If not, I recommend you read it. It's a good novel. I'd be interested to hear what you have to say about it.
