how do you mm during class, when the teacher is explaining things linearly? and how do you mm on your paper, doenst it expand to more pages, which kinda destroys the mind map?

Go ahead and expand on many pages but link ideas using #'s, letters, roman numerals etc. I like loose leaf paper (or printer paper-no lines) because you can spread them out and if one page points to another I can just look and not have to flip pages. Obviously do not write on the backs of any paper.

Curious about you saying MM can be done in class.
In my experience doing MM during a lecture works well when you understand the concepts and terms immediately and if the instructor doesn't backtrack.
I found myself resorting to taking traditional notes with lots of footnotes, then doing the MM afterwards when I was better able to visualize the concepts and ideas of the lecture.
How does using multiple pages for the MM lecture work when you will have reintergrate the whole thing into a single MM later for retension?
Am I missing something?
I hope you don't take this as a criticism, but I remember having to use up page after page for a simple lecture. Some of the ideas/concepts/techniques were complex and needed some thinking before committing to a MM.
I'm planning to take another series of courses soon and using MM as my note taking method, I could use some tips.

Your way sounds better- to take notes and then mind map later. I was saying to do the MM during class too, if you can. I'm also assuming you've read the info the prof is lecturing about and that the class would serve as activation. In most of my classes I had a sylibus so it wasn't too hard to figure out what was comming. Taking notes the normal way is a must and if you want the MM to tell you which part of your notes to go to for furthur explaination- that's what the numbering system was for. If you can't MM during class, who cares, you got the notes. In most of my classes the prof took enough "side paths" during the lecture to allow it. If you got one that throws info at you that you can't read before hand, this really can't be done.
