Forums IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ PhotoReading, Memory Optimizer Been reading 800 words/min. Photoreading Necessary?

my comfortable reading speed is 600 words/min; my top speed is 800 +. Back about 5 years ago I took various speed reading classes which took me quite a bit of time before I was able to master.

I want to get the opinion of anybody here regarding my situation if it is still a good idea to get this program.

Has anyone here been really reading at least 25,000 words per minute! ? (This claim seems to be too good to be true)

Normal speedreading at 2000-5000 wpm gives you terrible comprehension.

WPM is not really the goal, the goal is a good understanding of the main points.

Speed of reading is not my goal either. Comprehension and integrating information is. Recall is. Remembering names and minute details is (I'm totally terrible at names). How fast I can race through a page or book is of no interest.
I'm doing this program to help prove to my college sons that the system will work for them in their massive college programs also - teaching science, marine engineering masters, and law school. (I am a returning student as well.)
And using the WHOLE system is what works - not just photoreading and activation. So many people want to just do a little bit of the system and expect miracles. It's the whole program - to be able to find desired material in a text and retain more of what is read. Do all the steps until they become second nature - and see what happens!!

BTW - This "system" is not for pleasure reading, unless you want to photoread the book first just to get a feeling for it. I'm doing that with Lord of the Rings. Now as I read it pretty much word for word (but finding that I am reading just a bit quicker than what I used to for pleasure reading - which is interesting) it is not at all tedious. I want to read this before seeing the movie! Then after the 19th I'll work on the other two volumes!!

I think you can use PRing for pleasure reading, but it's different. Not better or worse, just different.

See, I think a better term for PRing would be "text activation". "I don't read anymore, I do something called text activation." Because it's really not comparable to reading anymore. It's completely different.

So sometimes I use it for pleasure reading, sometimes I don't. I've also used it on LOTR, but it's because I had a class on it and we were moving pretty fast (IS THAT COOL OR WHAT! I HAD A CLASS ON TOLKIEN! We had to read The Hobbit and LOTR and do papers on it...for extra credit, we could speak in old english...much much harder than it sounds).

I've also regular read LOTR. Liked it equally as much (okay...maybe a <em>little</em> more =)). I agree that PRing is better for other things, but you <em>can</em> use it on pleasure stuff.
