Chris asks about my views. Complex topic, not easily described except by a collective examination. To reduce my views to the following phrase does not really cover it:
things we associate as "spiritual insights" are just the relevations of our subconcious to our concious.
When asked:
Are his beliefs Agnostic, New Age, or what?
I would definitely say, "or what"
I was baptized, raised, and confirmed in the Lutheran Church (MO Synod). I attended the Unity Church for a dozen years during and after college. My wife is a preacher's kid and my father-in-law is a retired Methodist minister. Our children have all grown up in the Methodist Church (all baptized and 2 confirmed so far). I am a supporting member of the Excelsior United Methodist Church near my home and formerly director of the Adult Education Committee.
My views of spirituality are exceedingly diverse. I've studied a lot of religious writings and have a strong spiritual life. I consider my spiritual life to be much more than any religious practices I perform or profess in a congregation. I prefer a metaphysical interpretation of religious texts, focusing more the perennial wisdom behind all great religions than on the literal interpretations offered for mass consumption. I don't think that new age-ism adequately covers my views. But I can assure you agnosticism certainly does not.
