I think I've cracked it finally. With the help of you kind people I think I finally have the hang of photoreading. As always though there is one small problem – how to get my mind to shut up. I can’t seem to stop thoughts invading whilst PR’ing – thoughts like “I wonder if this is working”, “man that steak piotre was good”, “my thumb hurts” and so on. I have found that practising the page turning rhythm helps a little. Any suggestions?

Wise,
You know i don't think it really matters, i.e., the mind chatter.

BUT---here's the thing. If you have very clear goals stated in your quiet scene, then it truly won't matter. If you don't have clear goals, then it might.

If you must chatter internally, then do so about how much you are getting out of PhRing. Or about how you are feeling as you do it. Positive things that will benefit you.

After 6 yrs of PhRing, it all becomes fairly magical. A deep breath, clear on what i want, maintaining a deep alpha and an easy movement between alpha and beta produces amazing results.

You know: Why not turn on a tape recorder as you are PhRing and talk out loud what ever comes to mind. IMAGE STREAMING----produces some interesting and very helpful results. Maybe you are a natural image streamer.

Final statement---i'm thinking that mind chatter while PhRing is possibly a very insightful, intuitive and helpful technique as long as goals are clear and one is relaxed.

Hey great advice, thanks for that. Clearly you are the wisest of them all. So, 6 years and its still interesting eh? Too bad I have a 10 second attention span. I'll have a stab at the image streaming as soon as I can - been too busy with bodging up cooking recently to photoread.

P.S. Word of warning - mousakka tastes a lot wose than it looks.

Wise and Margaret,
Ive got that same "brain chatter" when I read normally, I've been told that it is because my mind is bored and wants to do something at a faster speed. maybe photoreading will help me get rid of the brain chatter...btw...when i do read normally, if my brain starts wandering...i continue to read w/ my eyes, but my brain is thinking about what is for lunch...this affects my comprehension VERY badly...and i have to re-read whatever I just read because i dont remember any of it. anyway, is this just a bad habbit or do i need to re-channel my brain wandering into something like image streaming or something...?!!? help me out here, thanks, (btw, i have not gone through the PR course yet, its in the mail)

My guess is that your problems stem from not being taught how to use your brain correctly. Correctly means---using your brain in a manner that is beneficial for you.

I would suggest purchasing the home study course of PhotoREading if you can. If you can't afford it, then buy the book and a paraliminal tape like memory supercharger or personal genius. I write this because it's not just PhRing, but rather PhotoReading the Whole Mind System. I got so much out of the total concept. It's an approach.

Do not blame yourself for your wandering mind. The educational system in the US has not addressed the need to train students how to study or use their brains efficiently. Here, learn about electricity. Read chaps. 4-7. The test is in 3 weeks. Then when your mind wanders due to not having a brain friendly approach to studying, you think you're stupid. Then when you finally graduate and your mind is still wandering you get angry with yourself.

The brain is a terrific instrument and people like Tony Buzan saw this back in the 1970's.

Win Wenger's book The Einstein Factor has a chapter on Freenoting. There have been some interesting things going on, but you'll have to do the foot-work. Good Luck

Big,
I taught a boy Mind Mapping. By only using Mind Mapping, he graduated as The Most Improved Student in his h.s. class. He told me it was thanks to MMing.

He filled the walls of his room w/ MMs. He said it was so easy to get the big picture and remember stuff.

Drinking water, exercising, brain gym exercises, stating your goal, doing your studies in 20 minute layers.

Do you realize that a wandering mind is the result of your brain not being in an integrated state. Yes! You are not using your left side enuff. You are too much in the right side. X think of an X,
do cross crawling, trace a butterfly with your eyes to bring your brain back into integration

Brain Gym by the Dennisons is inexpensive and can be purchased directly from them.

I get very disgusted w/ the lack of insight into the problems of today's students.

DownTown,
Yes, there is something i'd like to suggest.

PLAY W/ IT. FOOL AROUND. LET GO OF SUCCESS.

I did it & had instant success b/c i am old & was just having some fun. Then i stopped b/c of work and family. When i came back to it, i was amazed at how much progress i made the second time around. LAYERS

I really don't think people understand what Paul means when he says layers. Life, all Life is actually done in layers. You play pee-wee baseball, then little league, etc. So when you get the course, just let yourself be in the pee-wee league.

Tell yourself that you will just learn 1 thing, 1 new thing each time you play w/ it. Now, you have to practice that 1 thing somehow. Like if you are doing Prepare, and you learn about the Tangerine Technique----practice it all the time. You know, even after all these years, i still remind myself to do it. Anytime i feel myself get tight on an issue, i just imagine my vision going peripheral and widening out. I am telling you----that ONE technique is a technique for LIFE.

But what happens is that most people are kids and students w/ pressing problems and they want to learn it yesterday and that means STRESS and stress is not where it's at for the pee-wee league. The pee-wee league doesn't even know what day of the week it is or worry about grades. They're standing in left field looking at the sky for heavens sake . Be like that & you'll find yourself, 6 months down the road, riding in a convertible laughing your silly head off. And, a yr. later, you'll be getting impatient w/ people who can't understand your success.

You are just a genius already<<< why not enjoy yourself?

I should also add---i'm a huge fan of MMing. There is just >>for moi<< no way around MMing. I have forgotten almost how to write! I do everything under the sun in the MM form. From TO DO lists to journaling, it's MMing for me.

I also combine MMing w/ Birkenbhil's analograffiti and ABC lists. When LS brings the price of MO down or it goes on sale, think about getting it.
