You use the two (normal reading and PRing) for two different things.
I still use both on a regular basis. There ARE times where the entire text is important, and you don't wanna skip anything. A personal e-mail is one, a well-written column another.
While reading an e-mail from my friend who's studying abroad in England, I read slowly since what he's talking about is hardly as interesting as how he says it.
While reading CNN.com or newsweek, I PR and skitter.
Philosophy I rapid read (I know I said I switched to SR+D for philosophy, but changed my mind again...it's just a safer bet to rapid read that sucker).
How-to books I SR+Dip.
It's a system, and one that you can use it different ways or not use at all. Having that option saves you even more time when you know when.
