ever since i started this system i felt like something i couldn't do. i think it has to do with the activation step. somebody tell me what's wrong

The PhotoReading system works best by asking yourself, questions. From the moment you pick up the book you need to ask yourself questions... so that you will activate or get the information you want out of the book

The first question you'll ask yourself when you pick up a book is usually "What is this book about?" You then preview it to get part of an idea. You know you are not going to get the complete picture until you've read it. Eg the PhotoReading book... you'll look at it and say 'reading technique'.... next question/s Do I want to read it, do I want more information, what kind of information does this book have?

You need to ask yourself questions before you even start paging through the reading material. It is answering these questions that brings about activation. When you know what you 'want' to know great but when learning you usually don't even know where to start.

So here's an idea... a starting point...
For non fiction books with Chapter heading and subheadings you can ask the who, what, when, where, how and why questions...

EG.for Chapter 2 Old reading habits or New reading choices (of the PhotoReading book) you could pose the question What? are old reading habits. What? new reading choices are there. How? can I benefit.

Simply put. To activate - look at the table of content while previewing and ask. Who? What? When? Where? How? Why?...

Eg Using the PhotoReading book.
Chapter; Prepare... question/s how? does one prepare, when? should one prepare.
Chapter Preview... question/s What? is preview. Why? preview, When? preview
Chapter Photoread... Question/ What? the ???? is photoread.
Chapter Activate... Question/ What? does that word mean anyway? What? has it got to do with reading or photoreading?
Get the idea?

After you've asked some questions now when you start reading the book you have a purpose... you want answers to these questions so now your mind is looking for these answer when you Photoread/ superread and dip (page through the book). New questions can and do arise after photoreading and that's the idea. When that happens you are activating the book. Have at least 3 questions you want answered before you Photoread a book.

When you are able to answer your questions you are doing it right. If you haven't got any questions you are not going to get much out of a book.

You even need to form questions for a novel or non-fiction book. If you would like I have an outline of what to look for when wanting to activate a novel. Particularly useful if you have to read a book for school.

BTW nothing is wrong... you are learning it and that takes time

That is one mistake that causes people to fail with the system. They say, "PhotoRead" rather than just use the system. They think about doing it right, and then, they don't get any of the book!

Getting confused about activation? Ask questions to yourself, just like Alex said. Plunge DEEPER into your confusion! Maybe you'll be more confused at first, but don't worry. You just have to play with it.

Remember:be persistant. If you're frustrated, or get frustrated, relax. Take a break, come back later maybe. Just remember that you are going to get this.

Good advice.

Learn With The Classics is a terrific book that quickly trains you how to ask questions for learning and reading. It also comes w/ a nice cd. Also it's a brain friendly book.

alex, i would be interestd in the PR technique for reading novels or pleasure reading since im in mid forties, out of school and read novels pretty much all the time.....
