Hi,

I'm still new to this. I noticed that while PRing a book, my conscious mind was busy thinking about a problem that I am working at at work during the daytime.

I assume that my inner mind is still getting the photo of the pages accurately. Is this similar to putting my conscious focus on the top back part of my head (the tangerine)? Is the technique really to have the conscious mind not bothered with the information while you are in PhotoFocus?

Thanks,
Chris K

That is one purpose for the tangerine. What you're doing is fine. Your inner mind is still getting all of the information that is needed.

The conscious being occupied during the PhotoReading step, according to some, actually helps the process.

I've done all kinds of things, from talking to people while flipping the pages, to thinking about playing video games while PRing a history book.

Hey youngprer,
So what you're saying is...for some people...it acutally helps to THINK ABOUT OTHER THINGS while photoreading? But I remembered Paul Scheele said if we do wander off our minds while photoreading, we should bring our minds back to consciouness and focus on photoreading...

Ideally you should maintain an awareness at the back of the head. The chanting helps to stay with the pace and task at hand. It is not unusual for the mind to wonder while you're photoreading and it probably better to be OK with it than to worry about it having a detimental effect on the photoreading session.

However I'm inclinded to bring my attention back to the page turning when my mind does wonder. I found that by holding a question in mind about the book or topic of the book I seem to have faster information from the book. This is works for me and everyone will somehow adapt the process to work for them.

While learning, aim to stay with the book, if the mind wonders gently return to the book, notice the tangerine, remember why you're photoreading the book but stay in the flow. Check what's working, if you find your mind wondering and have no problem activating the book fine. If activation isn't working go back to the basic procedure as taught in the book.

the reason for occupying the concious mind is to sneak past it to get the information to your inner mind, but the concious mind should ideally be making sure you keep the pace and state, and to keep your photofocus. youngprer probably has all these steps down pretty well, so anything extra to keep his mind distracted is probably ok. new people like me and u should probably keep it distracted with all the different things, page turning, keeping the state, photofocusing, and maybe even add the tangerine. usually all of these things become overwhelming to a beginner, so try not to add things too quickly. i try to just ignore keeping the state, it doesnt have to be 'kept' really, if your in it, just dont let things distract you or anger you. page turning is one thing to do, photofocus is a big one, and keeping the beat of "re-lax, re-lax, 4-3-2-1 is good enough and it helps you keep the state.

I'd say that getting lost in other thoughts while photoreading is normal and requires some experience and time to ignore them, however (and plese feel free to correct me if I'm wrong) I think that thinking about that problem at work might distract the subconscious mind from the original purpose into seeking information from the book regarding the problem at work (ie the thing you are thinking about) ....

It's difficult for your mind to wander if you use the "4-3-2-1" chant while flipping.
