Does surveying the material actually require reading?

No, it doesn't.

Get a basic idea via surveying the front & back covers and table of contents. Then glance thru it to see if any words pop out at you. 6-8 minutes that's all. Truthfully, i was amazed at how much i could get in only 6-8 minutes. Time yourself.

But, if you're following the course, you then write a single sentence about what the book is about in your own words. <<< This is very helpful in the beginning. It somehow helps w/ knowing and knowing that you know. I don't do it any more, but i do state out loud what the book is about.

I'll preview >> PhR >> and then after coming out of the quiet scene >> i'll state what it's about; what level of comprehension i want from it; how much time i'll probably need to spend w/ it; and anything else that comes to mind. This whole process takes around 15 minutes

I picked up a book, The Energy of Money, and did that. Intuitively i said there wasn't much there that i didn't already know. But, as i was PhRing, i noticed that there were exercises. It came to me that a couple of the exercises would be useful. I found 2 that could really help me clarify my attitude towards money. This all took about 15 minutes. Now doing the exercises will take more time & i want to be peaceful & reflective. I don't count that time in the PhRing activation step. I'm basically done w/ that book.

hope this helps

If you are wondering whether surveying requires reading, Margaret's right on.... it doesn't.

Are you consciously recognizing and processing words that catch your attention during the 8-minute Preview of the whole book? Absolutely.

Are you reading left-to-right, beginning-to-end? Thank goodness, NO.

if it has a SH in front of it, it would mean something to me; how about you

I wrote this: see if any words pop out at you

IT is not a word actually rather a pronoun. He, she, it, they, we, her, him, them, us, you.

When i first picked up a book on NLP, i happened to notice the word bridging which was curious. Then the word reframing popped up.

loosen up & think in a relaxed manner

My guess is that this is like hypnosis in that only some people are able to do it while others cannot. I happen to be one of those that cannot. :-(

No, that's not your problem. Your problem is something else.

I can't even imagine why or how you could end up comparing previewing to hypnosis.

Do you own the course?

All hypnosis is self hypnosis. People who have the greatest difficulty experiencing the benefits of hypnosis are usually overly critical and are too logical. or simply don't what to be hynotised. That is their beliefs inhibit them.

I notice how strongly your belief that you cannot learn the photoreading method is stated in that post.

The forum can help you to better understand the step, method and provide encouragement. However it is much more difficult for us to help you change your belief. Perhaps you could try the Belief paraliminal to help you get over this hurdle?
