Hello,

After getting up to 90 WPM on a DVORAK keyboard, I realized how learning to photoread is very similar.

I had typed on a OWERTY keyboard for 21 years. Thats 21 years of MUSCLE MEMORY. I was getting carpal tunnel and I would feel very tired if I typed alot. I am a computer consultant, so yes I do a lot of typing.

Logically I knew the QWERTY layout sucks and slows you down. The DVORAK keyboard is better from a structural standpoint. You just put the most often used keys on the home row - how simple is that.

BUT it took me two tries and one year to get to my present speed. My first try was PAINFUL - the fingers just wouldn't go to the new keys. Also under periods of stress, they would revert back to QWERTY. So I quit.

The second time was much better. I bought typing tutor 7 and cranked away. It took me two months before I went cold turkey on the old keyboard layout. It would have been faster, but I have to type on qwerty sometimes at work.

I know this is a very loose analogy. Logically you know the system should work... but it is your old habits that try to sabatoge you.
