I'll keep this short and sharp:

(If you don't know what I'm talking about look at page 42 bottom right corner in the 3rd Edition PWMS book.)

1. Does the tangerine technique automatically put you into the alpha state? (Ideal state of mind)

2. Is there anything that indicates mabye that you can FEEL to KNOW your in the ideal state of mind?

3. Is there anything that indicates maybe that you can FEEL to KNOW your in the accelerative learning state?

4. Is there anyway you can tell these states apart from each other? (e.g. How do I know I'm in a theta state not an alpha)

4. When you are sleeping your in a delta state right?

5. What tips can you give me to help me into these states by myself with no aids (music etc...)

6. Is it all really a matter of practice?

7. I notice on page 28 of the PWMS book there is a diagram of the tangerine technique in this the tangerine is not resting on the head but floating in the air. Where do I imagine it?

8. How long does it take to master on average?

Thankyou for your valuable time,

Hornet

No. The tangerine technique is a trigger for the point on your brain that helps to bring the appropriate concentration for reading and mental concentration. By throwing your awareness there during periods of learning you are better able stay with the task at hand and minimise the mind wondering to the point that it forgets what you were doing. In some cases it may increase the presence of alpha waves however that is not the purpose of the tangerine techniquie.

The 3 to 1 technique is for the accelerative learning state.

For the alpha state you've already experienced it so often in your life it is a very normal feeling. When you do the 3 to 1 technique for the accelerative learning state as describe you trigger more aplha brainwave functioning. You trigger the optimum level of alpha required for the task each time you follow the steps into the accelerative learning state.

Since you are so familiar with this state you will feel as you always do. The way to tell if you are at the appropriate level for you is:-
1. you've followed the steps to enter the accelerative learning state. (this triggers the appropriate level of alpha for you)

2. you maintain that relaxed feeling. It's a bit like soaking in a hot bath or having a relaxing shower. Both these activities bring on more alpha activity in the brain. That is why many people find answers to their problems during this time.

3. If you find yourself worried or anxious, having thoughts that this doesn't work or I'm not doing it right. You are definately not in the accelerative learning state. Do the 3 to 1 and combine it with the tangerine to maintain worry free focus on the task at hand.

All brainwave patterns are usually present and active to some degree at all times.

For the accelerative learning state we aim to increase the amount of alpha waves present however beta still predominates where physical activity takes place and takes over when we 'see' with hard focus.

Alpha waves predominate when we close our eyes and the amount of beta rapidly reduces. This is why it is wise to close your eyes when preparing to photoread. Turning your eyes up just 20 degrees speeds up the alpha predominance/preparation.

When you open your eyes after entering the alpha there continues to be a presence of alpha as long as you remain relaxed, say the chant and maintain the soft gaze. Beta is triggered to start predominating when you use your eyes in hard focus. Alpha and beta are very similar in feeling they are both mentally alert states of mind, alpha is more relaxed and somewhat clearer thinking than beta. And we hang around them most throughout the waking day.

Theta is a more feeling sleepy, very relaxed state. You find your body is usually very physically relaxed which is nice and your thoughts are easily forgotten without the presence of alpha. This is not a productive state for photoreading since it is hard to remember what you were just thinking about. Often spontaneous activation can take place at this level however it proves disappointing is you can't remember your thoughts. Even dreams that are remembered usually occur with a brain that has alpha predominance along with theta.

Delta is considered the deep sleep state. When a person is sleeping at delta it is very difficult to wake them.

Practice the entering the accelerative learning state everytime you prepare to photoread this gets you into your ideal mind. Say the chant as you turn the pages because it helps to keep you there. Practice staying with it, if you find yourself reading words while page turning just close your eyes for a moment take a deep breath let it slowly out gently open your eyes again and keep going. Soon enough you'll reach the point you'll be able to reach the accerative learning state just by intending to.

Yes

You can imagine it touching your head at that point or keep it floating. The idea is to throw your mental awareness to that area of your mind. In which case you might find it more comfortable to have it floating. To begin with you might try touching the top of your get to get the awareness there. It works well as a trigger. The memory of your touch helps to make it feel like the tangerine is sitting there. If you cannot hold the memory of the touch have it floating there instead.

It probably takes a few days to learn to enter the accelerative learning state on your own. If you got the tapes it's a little easier to experience it. It normally takes 1 month of daily use to start it becoming a habit that is comfortable for you use. If you enter the accelerative learning state daily for as instructed in the photoreading book, for a month you'll probably find it is second nature by then.
