Hello people!
Got the pring book several weeks ago but I haven't really had a chance to try it out cause of school etc. Ive read the book though and had a few attempts at pring but Im not sure Im doing it right.

first of all, the whole relaxing thing just doesn't work with me. I do what it says in the book but i never seem to fell anymore relaxed than I did in the first place, in fact most of the time I get more stressed because Im so aware that Im not relaxed and I should be. The trouble is I get frustrated VERY easily when I cant do things- always have done. If Im trying to pread a book and I don't think Im doing it right or I think Im not relaxed enough I usually put (throw) the book down, get v.stressed and go play on my computer.

Secondly Im not sure about this photofocus thing. I can diverge my eyes no problem but the tangerine tech. doesn't seem to make any difference as i dont notice any change in my prfrl. vision and the pages dont look any different to normmal. Im also incredibly bad at turning pages- usually end up turning two at a time etc.

Also I notice that when im trying to pread my eyes tend to be looking quite high up on the pages and I can barely see the bottom, so I lower my eyes and then realise Im no longer concentrating on the book etc. and basically it all goes wrong. Im also not sure whether when i havemyt eyes diverged the words should be clear or blurred as I can switch between both- but as I turn the pages it tends to get blurry.

Also I was wondering if the fact that im a bit doubtful about the pring system makes a difference. It's not that think pring DOESN'T work, its just that im not 100% convinced that it does. But Im prepared to believe

PS. I know some people have said that pring dictionaries can help you learn a language but I was wondering if it really does much good as there isnt really a way to preview etc. (Id like to do it to help with my Spanish GCSEs but I dont want to be wasting my time)

The method for relaxing stated in the course is not the only one, check into yoga (or Qigong etc). I dont really remember what techinique is in the course or book, but one way is to

If you are turning two pages at a time, simply slow down. This is not a race, relax with it. I found that when Im not relaxed I tend to turn multiple pages at once.

You doubt and expect it to work? Only those who take risks will reap its fruits.

Just Pr'ing dictionaries will not help you learn a language. You have to do other stuff, like take classes. I found a chat transcript of Tony Buzan that involved learning a new language, it can be found at http://www.msoworld.com/brain/mental/brainchat_buzan.html

Laura if you are relaxed before the exercise and you feel the same after the exercise, go with that... You really don't need feel different when you did it correctly. It is worrying about doing it right that is throwing you off base more than anything else. Be yourself at 14? you are in the right state to begin with .

Why not look at photoreading like learning a new computer game. You have a quick look a the basic moves, play a level and notice what happens when you make certain moves/shots. In the game you discover by trial and error what works and what doesn't. However you don't really care because its a game, right?

Look at photoreading the same way. You might want to master it someday, be nice if you could master it overnight but wheres the fun in that? You get to refine each part of the system to your own needs as you play/use it again and again.

The tangerine technique won't make any major difference for you because nothing externally is happening. The tangerine technique is for triggering your mind into action. You just do it (like collecting extra points for lives/tools in a game) to focus your intention on the reading process. Turning 2 pages at a time happens to everyone. Practice letting it go because you can turn the book over and PR it the otherway too and it's surprising how often we regular read 5 to 6 pages without seeing what is on them either .

The fact that the pages tend to get blurry is good it means you are allowing yourself to go into photofocus as you progress. Practice holding your gaze in the center spine of the book. Looking where there normally is no text because it falls into the 'gutter' of the book.

Yes being a little doubtful does make it a bit harder. With each small success the doubt can fall away if you want it to. It's a little more difficult because you wanted to prove it works to your mother at one point. You realised there was some work involved and your wanting to prove it works is probably making you more critical of your performance at each step of the way.

My advise to you is get to know the steps of the system and then play with the whole system pretending that you have already mastered each of the steps. The funny thing is if you follow the steps you can gain excellent results even if you haven't 'mastered' each part perfectly.

Ive been doing Spanish for 3 1/2 years at school (unfortunately- I cant stand it but I had to take a language) I was just wondering if pring a dictionary might help me with the language / vocabulary, especially as Im always forgetting words.

The main reason that I doubt pring is that I'm not totally convinced that it is actually the pring step that works but rather the previewing etc. But anyway like I said Im willing to try it and I do want it to work- I just dont want to waste my time.

Happy birthday a week late.

PRing the French/English dictionary helped me with recalling vocab during class conversations.

Laura, Photoreading a language dictionary is hardly a waste of time. Once a day for a week or two and you'll probably notice the benefits and that is 10 minutes a day for most dictionaries. While you are photoreading you use photofocus and the chant to remain in the accelerative learning state... improving your photoreading skill. So its a win win situation.

No need to look for trigger word, just get into accelerative learning state and PR the book
