Hi,
Can we PR without having reached the altered state of consciousness?
Is it sufficient that we just photoread a book without doing the other steps?
Has anybody heard of Howard Steven Berg, the author of super speedreading. He asserts that he can read a book at a level of 25000 WPM. He really reads it, but at a higher level. Can a men really read at that level? If it is possible, isn't it better than PR: this methods of reading gives you immidiately results (results of reading, with PR one must wait for results).

It isn't really an altered state of consciousness. Its a relaxed learning state. A trigger that helps you to focus on gaining the information you seek while photoreading/reading/learning.

Howard Berg also encourages you to enter the relaxed learning state Page 13 to 15 of his book Speed Reading 1998 Barrons ISBN 0-8120-9852-8 Instructs you to enter a similar state for learning.

While you are learning the system it is best to stick with all the steps. After a while they become habit so that you seem to do them so quick it seems like you're not doing them at all. Yet you are :)

Yes I have a book by Howard berg I've even done his speed reading home study course. I've been able to get more information out of a book using the photoreading method than Howard Bergs speed reading. His method works for him and photoreading words for me. ;) I've found what I've wanted from books while photoreading and put it into use within 3 minutes. I've had direct learning experiences that I consider unlikely with just speed reading. I've finished with books in 30 minutes having gotten everything I want from them... much more than if I had regular read or speed read the book. I've still got Mr Bergs tapes and I found the informationin his book on speed reading very helpful. He doesn't claim to be able to teach you to read 25,000 words per minute in fact on page xii of the above book he writes "Research at Northwestern University clearly demonstrates that right now you have the ability to read at least 1800 to 2000 words per minute." which to me is still slow compared to the amount of information I can pull from a book using the photoreading system.

It's the same. Even Mr berg points out that an expert reader speeds up and slows down according to the text. With Mr Bergs course my best reading speed was 800 wpm. Now im rapid reading an average of 1800wpm without having had to do the daily 1 hour drills.

In any most cases I don't even need rapid reading, using superreading and dipping is all that is required for many books. I just use rapid reading on books I want more out of or just want to read for the pleasure of reading.

There is no need to add extra work to improving your reading speed. When you follow the steps of the PhotoReading system you'll find that your reading speed increases naturally. To get the hang of photoreading I dropped everything I had learnt about reading. Including speed reading and just worked with the methods.
