You might want to try the "Get Around To It"
paraliminal tape.

One of the reasons for procastination is that the image in our mind is that the task is huge or overwhelming. Eg for studying we see the project as needing 3 or 4 hours before it is complete. Knowing that such a large block of time is required is often daunting. One way to overcome this is to set a time limit on how long you are going to work on something. Chunking it into smaller parts. Rather than seeing it as something that needs to be completed in one sitting (most task that we can put off don't need to be completed in one go). Break it down into smaller steps.

EG limit your study time to 30 minutes and even if its not finished call it quits. (If you want to continue be sure to take a break and walk right away from the task for 10 minutes. You made a promise to yourself that you must keep. Then make a new time limit. It helps to keep the procastination bug at bay in the future. If you keep going ove the agreed time it will be difficult to motivate yourself on other projects in the future.)

Fear of failure (or success) is another reason why we procastinate. We want to avoid putting in a lot of effort and then not see the rewards for our efforts or worse have to keep working at it to sustain it. In this case we need to review our goals as a journey and not a destination.

Also check that the project you are procatinating on represents your goal. If it isn't you need to either make it your own or dump it. If it is something you don't want to do, don't have to do and its not really a goal... dump it.

And yes, the Get Around To It paraliminal is probably the easiest way to overcome procastination on a project.

Hello James1,
I personally recommend the 'Get Around To It' Paraliminal tape. I use this myself and I get immediate results when I use it. It breaks through the logjam by helping you to reset your priorities and reassures you of your ability to take action and make decisions.
There have been other posts in the DF on this topic that are helpful as well. Do a search for 'procrastination.'
One nugget of truth that I have learned and have been facing up to is that a lot of procrastination is rooted in a sense of shame and guilt. (For the more acute procrastinators such as myself, anyway.)

There are so many things that can be your block and several techniques to help you get on with it.

AlexK as usual, hit the mark. There's some part of you that doesn't want to do it. The real reasons are not always easy for you to discover. I believe becoming aware of the issues and dealing with them is best.

Some people are more practically minded and just want a formula, so here a few.

Nike: Just do it.
Blinders: Don't look at the obstacles or end, just the next step.
Inetia: Do some of it NOW, and do at least 20 minutes before taking a break.
Manager: Do it. Dump it. Delegate it. Decide which is appropriate and get on with it.
Trainer: Be your own personal trainer. Step back and give yourself some direction.

Just a note, people who are too busy to get things done seldom describe themselves a procrastinators. However, procrastinators will often busy themselves with other things. These types of procrasinators usually have something to confront before they can get on to it.

I think all of you are right.GapMan I am usually depressed, Monday to Friday because I know school is on those days (I hate it so very much!!).Alexk was right to, I always feel that the slightest and easiest work is going to take forever.Iam2 hit the spot when he mentioned about how people work on other things, I have so much time to kill it's just disgusting. Jonah I might try and get that tape.

A couple of things pop out about your question.

First... You are using what are called "universal qualifers" in your speach. "all the time","allways","never"...

This is almost certainly not true. If it were then you would not do ANYTHING! Try to stop using these words in this regard.

The second thing is that if you are so good at putting things off, why don't you use that skill to put off procrastinating? You are very good at getting into the state of procastination, try entering that state on purpose the next time you want put something off and put off procrastinating! This may sound silly but I can vouch for the effectivness of this aproach.

Dave

(Thanks to NLP for these thoughts)
