PRed my first book today, good success. we had bad weather so i couldn't go to the library to get a book of choice, but having a snow day i really wanted to do it today.

i picked out [u]HOW TO WIN FRIENDS & INFLUENCE PEOPLE[/u] by Dale Carnegie. my dad had it in the basement and, even though it was 300 pages, it was the best i could find for structure and desire for reading.

i actually did stuff for 1hr 45min, with a 45minute break. i have a very detailed mind map and am glad i never read this the old fashioned way. most of the book is pumped with stories about how he got these conclusions, and the most crucial stuff is at the end of chapters; however, just reading the one sentance chapter summary is not enough.

i admit i dont recall many stories, but i know there were a few on Teddy Roosevelt and Napoleon. their stories didnt matter to me.

i'm not sure how much the photoreading step did, i dont remember any spontaneous recall or much bubbling up, but i still believe i will with a little use of the system. some of the concepts i understood like i knew them before, but i must tell you, many of them are fairly simple: you cant win an arguement, smile to impress people, etc.

cant wait to pr some more [especially on material i dont know a lot about, like robotics]

The effects of the photoreading step won't be that obvious until later. However it is no coincidence that your brain showed you exactly where to find relevant information in your book.

That's the idea. You pick up the important information. I'm impressed that you noticed that "most of the book is pumped with stories about how he got these conclusions". The fact that the stories were not important to you is fine. You still understood them at some other level of the mind because you were able to relate to the conclusions.
