I have owned the PR system for 2 years now, but i still havent put in enough effort to learn it completely. Something always gets in the way, last night i realized the reason i could not learn the system on my latest (but not final) attempt is because i no longer understand the point.
(i can however do the PR step, and understand all the steps of the system. I just dont "OWN" it.)
The site, book, forum, course all imply the following:
Greater Comprehension-Better Recall??
I always scored very high on comprehension tests, ever since i first learned how to read(stone age kind) i cannot recall ever scoring less then 95% on any standardized reading comp test. My recall has been just as good(comparing with my class mates throughout high school and now in college, i am one of the few who remembers quotes, numerical values, math problems, dates, etc. without refering to my (non-existing) notes. My comprehension is not an area that i feel drastic improvement is needed, and being able to recall entire articles in any field does not give you an advantage over the person who can recall just the needed facts (for social science majors) and for technical careers its useless (almost all the new material you will come across WILL have a theoritcal foundation, which will have the "mechanics" of your already existing knowledge i.e. if it is a new design for a jet, you simply take your idea of a jet and see what makes it different from "theirs" you recognize the key changes (the changes that force you to make all the other changes (for compatability)) and then you will have the complete picture without recalling every piece independent of the other. So recalling and comprehension doesnt intice me to learn the course.
Although mind maps(which i was exposed to through the PR book have made it so that i can organize my thoughts and that saves me time wasted having to "ask" my inner mind to spit out the answer (i realized this was the secret to my "photograhpic memory" that people keep telling me i have. This was after listening to memory supercharger, before then it was a natural instinct to sit and relax when trying to remember something or take a walk, now 9/10 i get an image randomly (that obviates the answer) and my original question in one neat package delivered to me)
The second part:
Less Time For Greater Comprehension.
Why not just continue using EYEQ in conjunction with the photoreading step? If i can raise my speed to 6k with 85% comp i should be able to read most books 2 times in less time, then the above average photoreader who (i believe razor posted this over 1 year ago) applies the whole system in about 2k WPM with higher comprehension then the speed reader who reads at that speed. But if we could, like pete or paul(for example) apply thw whole system at over 25K WPM then obviously the system is far superior. But i dont recall anyone on this forum ever posting that he/she photoread (a text containing a fair amount of detail) with 90% comprehension, so it seems that to develop photoreading skills at that level would take AT LEAST 2+ years (I DO BELIEVE IT IS POSSIBLE). This would not be practical, after all comprehension is not the issue, nor recall, my only interest is maximizing the speed at which i can sustain my current recall and comprehension levels. So i have come up with the following 2 day system for building my sensitivity to the material i photoread while working diligently on my EYEQ reading rate (i have been very very consistent with that program). Its basically the PR system without having to rely on my intuition to tell me where the information is, i just read the whole thing and go back to where I KNOW it is.
Day 1:
1. Relax, Tangerine
2. Photoread
3. If i get a lucid dream that night i try to activate
Day 2:
1.If no lucid dream then i imagine myself going through the book the old fashion way,and image stream from there.
2. (relax/tangerine) Scan at 9k
3. Speed Read at 2k once through
4. Mind Map
5. Rest Eyes
6. Go to sections to add detail to mind map (giving 45 secs per branch).
7. Try to relate imagestream/lucid dream to information dug out during day2.
I would love to hear comments and suggestions on this approach. just keep in mind, my goal with this sytem is to:
Sustain my current recall and comprehension.
Finish faster on both long terms (3 years and 10 years from now), 3 years since my speed reading will give me the edge right now, 10 years when i can understand material just by photoreading it.
Gain maximum conscious comp
Expect not to use the system on all my reading, just the courses i am expected to take to graduate minus all the science courses ( i simply "photoread, then speed read them", doing all the problems. It seems like science needs no "anchors" to hold it in place, just understanding the concepts makes it nearly impossible to forget).
Lastly, to be able to progress with my reading without losing site of the vast potetional photoreading at 25k can unleash.
