Considering that many students don't really read their textbooks, don't pay attention in class, and cram for the tests, I don't think your goal is far-fetched at all. A class will usually have one or two actual textbooks and maybe a regular book or two. On average I'll say they will have two books per course. At 5 courses per semester with 8 semesters that is 80 books, though in reality I don't think you will have that many. 80 books in one year is not really that much. If you narrow it down to the required courses for a degree the books you will read will be much less. You will probably have less than 40 books to read which should not be a problem.
If I were to do this, I'd get my catalog and figure out which courses I'd need to "take" and then see if I can find out what the required books are. Then I'd photoread them at the library since there is no way I'd buy them. I'd then activate them by supereading and dipping, mind mapping, and maybe rapid reading, and after that have discussions with students in those classes.
Of course, I'd do this with the classes I'm actually taking first.
