I have this problem as paul states in his tapes of while reading, saying in my head each word. I can't stop this and if I do, I seem to not comprehend the information. Please help me with this, any techniques or solutions? Thanks, Alex

During superreading you will be going too fast to hear the words in groups though one word here and there might jump up. I hear them as possible cues for dipping. When actually dipping you are reading and if you hear the words in your head that's fine. Just remember to only read a phrase or sentence or two and move on quickly.

Superread faster if you're hearing too many words. When skittering I hear words here and there I don't hear every word on the page only those that seem important.

It's okay to hear words it does help comprehension as you've found but not everything is important so just superread fast enough that you don't try to say every word.

However, if I don't look at the phrases and read them or say them in my head, I will comprehend nothing it seems.

I will try moving faster during the superreading, thanks Alex,

Any other suggestions? or techniques?

Conscious comprehension builds with questions. You do see the words sometimes that might mean you turn back a page because you were zipping over it whilst superreading. I understand your concerns with conscious comprehension. It's what you need to know right now that you want to consciously comprehend as soon as possible considering the other stuff is what you might need later well your mind did read it, just not consciously.

Use the words you hear as cues, for dipping and furthering your questions. Know that you don't have to hear the words to comprehend it. Build this skill over time. Give yourself some leeway and allow lapses. When they occur and you notice just return yourself to your intention.
