Layer it.
If I may take and add from Alex's example of meeting people.
In astrology you have three main signs. An ascendant, a star, and a moon sign.
Your ascendant is your outer shell. If you ascendant is a very different sign as your moon sign, as mine is (ascendant Virgo, moon Aries) then you will know that people who know you in a shallow, outward sense, don't know you at all.
Imagine if someone saw you like a book and only saw your ascendant, didn't bother to get to know your moon sign, the real you, the element that makes you who you are.
I find this happens a lot to me.So I treat the book the same. You can't go straight to the heart of the book, you have to egt to know it, delve deeper, get past the superficials, the outward face, get to know the real book, what it's about, what it can share and teach you.
It boils down to the old anology "don't judge a book by it's cover"
Say hello to the book, greet it, see what it's about, have a conversation with it.Suss it out, like you would a new acquatence, then gradually get to know it.
This takes time, but you'll know when it's worth delving deeper.
