if you imagine your favorite candy on the back of your head, then thats fine. yes a bird can work, anything that fixes your attention to that point is good enough to accomplish the goal. That's the good thing about photoreading, Paul encourages you to find what works for YOU.

It helps your imagination and focus if you close your eyes for a moment while you 'see' it. You get to the point that it's unnecessary to do that but it's good practice to start with.

imagine that you are hovering just above and behind yourself. Open your eyes and look at the screen (or pages), imagining that you are reading over the top of your own head. When you read, you will notice the part of the monitor on the edge of the screen (or your hands on the edge of the pages). The technique of peering from behind your head has actually widened your visual perspective, allowing you to take in both facing pages at once.

i know It helps my imagination and focus if i close my eyes for a moment, but i get this infor in debateit.net,said"Open your eyes and look at the screen (or pages), imagining ...." and my photoread book also said imagine it first then close your eyes, and feel it.
sorry, i am not want to doubt you ,i just want to find the best way to get this state.

The best way to get in state?

Easy!

Just think of what you want.

The tangerine, starts with the eyes closed for a couple of seconds (can be a blink) what is really important is the thought... what you think is so much more important than 100% action correct. The actions whatever you chose to take one are "your" triggers. What you are doing when you place the tangerine is setting your intention and then using "your" actions to click it into place fastest. The best way to to that is to be consistent.

So close your eyes... imagine the tangerine or bird. place it at the top back part of your head by touching there. You now have a physical sensation that helps you to concentrate. Don't worry about it after that... if you find your concentration wandering off... 'think', just think of the tangerine again and 'remember' the sensation you got when you touched there and you back on track.

Things like this isn't about getting it 100% right the first time. It's about repeating the small successes over and over again so that they build into the larger whole. It's about going...ooops I'm steering off track and moving the wheel a little to get it back, sometimes we over steer so we adjust again.

Like when things move. We keep adjusting to stay on path. We cannot lock in a straight line if the road is bumpy. So we adjust to return to the direction we want to go.

Now don't try so hard, just go through the motions! Notice what works make adjustments where it didn't quite work then do it again.

Even the books that you photoread require slight variations depending on what you already know, what you want to know, how fast you want to know it.

Photoreading isn't like flipping a light switch, even lights don't work sometimes when the bulb has blown or the electricity is off... so you make adjustments (candles perhaps? )

It's not an exact science. It's a collection of actions that when repeated often enough build a stronger muscle of intention.

You get into the state easily every time you use the technique. Put aside the doubt for a while and try it and see

Breathe deeply means to keep breathing. For some reason people tense up and forget to breathe.

Just by remembering to take deep slow breaths you will quickly begin to relax. Compare..

Hold your breath, and when you need a breath make it a quick short breath... notice the tension increase.

Now try breathing long and slow... deep whatever is comfortable... just slow full breaths... notice how much more relaxing that is compared to tense breating? That's all you're looking for... remembering to take long relaxing breaths.

Imagine a relaxing scene, something beautiful, or a symbol, just something that says to you peace, inner peace. Want to be sure it's a nice scene? Just check what happened to your breathing if it suddenly stopped, got panicky and shallow pick another scene. Make it an easy one that you can recall each time in a matter of seconds. A plant or flower works well, as does remembering a sunset or sunrise, a scene you've enjoyed before. If your breathing stays nice and relaxed or becomes even more relaxed, perfect. It's yours, so use that.
