I was wondering, what is the difference between the ideal state of mind and relaxed alertness, and what situations will I want to use these techniques? I've heard it used in different situations and was wondering if it is used interchangably. Thanks.

It really depends on what the words mean to you.

By default, relaxed alertness would probably branch off ideal state of mind, just in the sense that "state" covers many different aspects.

They can be viewed as the same thing, however. We use many terms, like "flow
state" or "accelerative learning state."

Hey, so precision of terms is a good thing to remember, but it's best to immerse yourself in the PhotoReading experience without thinking about the external references to what you are doing.

"Ideal state of mind" will be relevant to the situation, sometimes that's quietly relaxed... sometimes it's chanting with the crowd to motivate your team, sometimes it's letting go to laugh at a comedy, sometimes highly energised like for sports. It's the mind set you've discovered that helps you bring about the best results.

Consider it a fexible term to mean a state of mind that works best for you and most appropriate for what you are about to do.

"Relaxed state of alertness" is exactly that, the state as described. It's best uses are when you want to be there listening, watching, learning, doing or paying attention to what is happening within or in front of you.
