I have photoread this book called Global Debt about the less developed countries owing the rich countries. It is a little book, only 60 pages and with photos (could probably be read in 2 hours maybe less).

My purpose is to get a detailed knowledge so that I can decide whether their debt should be canceled or not. A little sub-purpose of mine is to get it to gel - Never think I have really been there.

I started with a preview with triggerwords (5 min), then I photoread the book twice and waited 3 hours for the first activation.

I have done 4 passes (20-25 min) in two days so far, and I have made a mind map with colors. I try to play with it, notice my feelings, always having the "be like a child", "there is no trying, just do it" and "there is no right and wrong" in my baghead. I dont really push myself, it is not for school.

During the first two passes, I asked my self "how and why did this debt came to be".
At the third "what options exist?, where do we go from her?, how is the future?".
It also occurs that a question suddenly popps up and that I use a few minutes to get it answered.

I can still read a line from the book for example "Nigeria and Indonesia are the most debt-ridden countries in the world" and be totally suprised by this fact. Not feeling that I somehow knew it.

Today during the fourth pass my inner-voice told me that I could have been this far, just by regular reading. I ignored my inner-voice and just kept on.

My state is like, I am bit dizzy, this happened one or two times before, but I should tell you that I never really managed to get pass the second activation pass. I have photoread around 100 books over the last 1½ years, activated 20, but only 5 or so thoroughly.

Now I think that I will ask you guys, how do I get it to gel? Maybe the material is a bit to simple?

Activate more books. Only 5 books in 1.5 years fully activated is rather poor going.

One question comes to mind about your purpose. Are you really going to cancel their debt if you think it should be cancelled?

Assuming you are a government offical your activation would be how did the debt occur who is responsible for the debt on what grounds can the debts be pardoned (cancelled)? How are we going to ensure that the debt will not recur. What must be learned from this. What evidence do I have that cancelling this debt will solve the problem and am I willing to put my butt on the line to cancel this debt based on this evidence.

However Cremio I don't think you are really in a postion to make a decision to cancel the debt. I think you aim is to be able to table an a pro or con arguement based on information in that book. It would seem to me that a more accurate purpose would be. That you are PhotoReading the book to find whether a debt should or should not be cancelled so that you can present a convincing debate as to why it should and or should not be cancelled.

That somewhat different purpose will change the focus of your activation and might make it gel faster. The more you can align your purpose with a good reasong for doing something the easier it becomes to activate.

What does your mind map show you?

To have a book gel is merely comprehending it as fully or better than one gets with traditional reading.

Drink more water if you start feeling dizzy.

Thanks for you response.

<<Activate more books. Only 5 books in 1.5 years fully activated is rather poor going.>>

Yeah, it is very poor. I was a procrastinator. But I am on the boat now and about to discover new continents.

<<However Cremio I don't think you are really in a postion to make a decision to cancel the debt.>>

No I am not in a position to make such a decision :-) But I thought that I needed an oppinion on the global debt-situation.

I will try photoreading one more time and adopt this new purpose that seems to be more specific.

<<What does your mind map show you?>>

Difficult question... hmm... It surely gives me the big picture, I can loosely tell you about the subjects. I can give you some of the pros and cons.

I made a fifth pass this evening and I had problems asking new questions, at times I was just super reading with no idea of where I was going, would questions like "What else is there in the book that might interest me" or "What have I missed to get my purpose fulfilled" be ok? It seems to me that they would bewilder my mind, they are not that specific, but I cannot think of something better.

<<Drink more water if you start feeling dizzy.>>

I drank ½ litre of water during the passes today, and I had to go to toilet like 5 times :-)

Cremio,

If you had no more questions, it's quite probable you were done. You may need to acknowledge that a 60 page book is really only going to give you some general information. That the general pros and cons that you mind mapped were about the depth of it.

For this book I suggest you give it a rapid read for conclusion. Your questions ...what else etc are fine.

To really experience this book gelling for you give it a rapid read then note your mind map what you felt you missed. then consider the 80/20 rule. You probably got 80% of the information in activation. The last 20% in a longer rapid read activation. The question then is did you get the information you were seeking in the first part of your activation?

Comparing that you will notice what it builds up to to have a book gel.

Well, I have just rapid read the book, it was going really fast, it took me 50 minutes and I also had time to work on my mind map simultaneously.

I would say that before the rapid reading I had like 60-70% of the book. The rapid reading improved my comprehension to 90-95%, there were a lot of facts and I believe the connections between the subjects were reinforced.

But it was also a little bit boring, since I was not sure of where I was going.

So the book is gelling for me now, but it is not a transcendental experience. I would say that the book falls together for me now, it is like common sense in a way.

My next project is a book called Business Cycles: From John Law to the Internet Crash and it is 350 pages.

My purpose is to get a detailed overview of the ups and downs of the market from John Law to the Internet Crash, so that I can get a strong grounding in economics.

The books contains many subjects so I belief that the best way to have fun with it is to work with it from chapter to chapter.
