i've just bought the book a few weeks ago. after a few days reading it, i have some question:

1) if you just photoread a book (no preview, no activating, etc...), can the information still be retain(available) in the mind? if you wish to recall back the info, do you close your eyes and let it come to you? (or something like that)

2) yesterday, i made a test for myself, to see if PR really works. i photoread one of my mom's fav novel for 30 min (prepare, preview, photoread, but didnt activate and didnt rapid read. done that in 10 min and rested for 20 min). then i let my mom ask questions bout the novel. i mostly got wrong answers, a few 'close' answers and only 1 correct answer. is my photoreading working, or is there another way to test myself for better result?

3) i'm currently studying foreign languages(which includes subjects like math and physic in foreign language). there is this big test on the 25th this month. can PR help me get better understanding of the language? if so, is there any method that is recommended (maybe i wont get a 'true' answer for this, but i like opinions)

4) lately i've been looking into the forums for more info on PR. since some posts are quite long, and moreover i have not much time to spend, can i just PR a topic straight away, and then do something else after that (study, sleep,)? can you know the topic even without speed reading/dip it?

5) lastly, is it better to PR often or to activate often? which is better to use for exam? is there any good tips for exams and/or questions from textbook,etc..?

sorry for the long (and many) questions. i'm just infinitely curious about the system and how it'll work. i'm currently in college and in the first few weeks, im doing pretty well, but my grades are getting lower and lower by the months. now im in the 'lower average' scale and there's a big test on the 25th. i just hope anyone can give me good tips on PR or others stuffs so i can pass the exam well. not only that, i wish to become a good PR.

again i apologize for the long topic. your help is greatly appreciated. thanks

Re the exam, I posted a similar q. You need to come up with a plan of action. What subjects are you studying? Are you comfortable in the source language, if not perhaps additional work in that area grammar spelling style could help.

I have had some success using photoreading.
For me it works best with one-for exercises but I have only been learning it since this November.

If you are new to it like me, I would not rely entirely upon photoreading for academic purposes. Build up your skills with simple materials. The more simplistic the materials the better it seems to work. An advantage of the system is that it does not take very long.
Photoreading in a foreign langauge is more difficult. I find the more familiar I am with the language the better it works.

Sometimes I do have some recall of materials I have not activated but it is rare and the information is minimal.

What I did find was, it was a very useful way of bringing previously read materials to the forefront of your mind.
Some years ago I read Catcher in the Rye a short novel by J.D.Salinger. When I picked up the book I had little recall of the book. It is not a great book b.t.w. Yet I photoread it and one hour later I could remember the plot in some detail. I had similar experiences with other novels previously read such as Andorra by Max Frisch and some play by Sartre.

You cannot recall something you have not called on in the first place. If you expect the book to be useful at some point you will need to Activate.

Apply all the steps on a number of books to train your body mind connection. It doesn't just happen you need to get the hang of it. Just like someone needs to get the hang of riding a bike before they can learn to perform stunts.

Not in 10 days. First you need to learn PhotoReading and apply it to some books that do not relate to your studies.

If you have not taken time to learn PhotoReading and apply all the steps as taught to build the body mind connection to get the information out? How are you PhotoReading anyway... You're skipping a lot of important steps which ones are you skipping to PhotoRead?

Your expectations of applying PhotoReading without learning it first are unrealistic.

It's better to learn the system as given without shortcutting it if you want to succeed with it.

As your experiement with your mums book already showed you have not done all the steps enough to build a body mind connection to hope for spontaneous activation. Those are exactly the results you risk getting when you try to bypass learning the PhotoReading system.

First, you need to learn and apply PhotoReading as taught, to get your reading done in 1/3 the time it takes for you to traditionally read. Once you are familiar with the system and are getting good results with manual activation you can experiment with skipping steps to find out what happens if.

thank you very much for the replies.

it seems that i'm really not getting the hang of PR yet, huh?

ok, maybe im in a bit of hurry to learn PR...

I did prepare, preview and photoread. But maybe i didnt activate the material well enough to get the info pop in my mind.

actually, just after a few days after my last post, i realized i didnt preview and/or activate carefully. so maybe this are the weak points that i didnt PR well.

'How are you PhotoReading anyway... You're skipping a lot of important steps which ones are you skipping to PhotoRead?'

with the novel, i did
1.prepare-(relaxed myself on a couch and affirmed i'll know roughly about the novel)

2.preview-(read first few lines of each chapter)

3.PR-(photofocus and flipping the page 1 by 1)

4.activate-(questions by mom)

must i activate the novel by myself first before answering questions?

Entering the Accelerative Learning State, Stating your purpose, saying the opening and closing affirmations. As a beginner you should be doing each of those steps.

Activate the book manually until it gels. This is necessary if you want to develop your PhotoReading 'muscles'.

Use the system on a number of non-fiction books first before using it on your textbooks.

To have activated the book with your mum asking the question you would still have used manual activation to go back to the book and find the answers.
