Well I'm getting frustrated. I started photoreading a few weeks back. I recently have ramped up a bit - I photoread 1-3 items a night, 5 nights a week, just for practice, and spend time activating one. The "items" are various books off my bookshelf and perhaps magazines and such that I have lying around.

My frustrations are two-fold:

1) Turning the pages. I find it incredibly difficult to turn one page at a time, no matter what techniques I try. I could deal with losing a few pages out of 400, but if I'm grabbing 2-3 pages at a time and do that consistantly, that's like losing half of the book. Maybe I lack the dexterity, but I'm usually reasonable good with my hands.

2) Mind wanders. I have no problem seeing the blip page, calming down, etc, but shortly after I start flipping pages my mind wanders to pretty much anything but what I'm looking at. At first I laugh at myself a bit, close my eyes, re-focus, then forge on, but after awhile I just lose concentration completely.

Any help here? Or is this something I have to "tough-it-out"?

P.S. I'm not worried about results right now. Don't get me wrong, I would love to get great results, but I have no problem investing 20-30 minutes a night in practice for a few months before something happens.

I found it difficult to maintain the state at first too. I did have to PR shorter sections of a book. I'd know I was losing it when I started to feel frustrated. When that happened I'd just take a break for a few minutes or try to get back into state depending on my mood.

For page turning I find it helpful to tilt the top of the book toward me elevating it a little. That causes the pages at bottom edge to step just enough that I can grab one of them with my finger. I suppose you could also press on the pages on the top right corner with your right hand and turn pages with your left hand for the same effect.

Page turning. With the index finger near the center of the book, slide toward the right (English language book) the pages usually separate so that you have one page by the time you get to the corner. You'll notice that the pages are slighty separated near the middle. It helps if the thumb gives a slight upward push on the page. If you are constantly grabbing 3 pages or more, Prepare the book and fan the pages a few times before beginning.

Whatever happens keep going. Missed too many pages? Turn the book over and start PhotoReading it upside down.

Mind wanders. Gently bring it back but keep going. Just remember in bringing your mind back that you have a purpose for this book. Say the chant and flip the pages in rhythm. You might just need to flip the pages faster.

Lose the blip. Keep going, just notice the four corners of the book and the patterns of the white on the pages and the margins, use the soft gaze. The blip will return and ig it doesn't it's cool you still PhotoRead the book. The blip will become steady when you remember to go easy on yourself.

Don't look at it as 30 minutes of practice. If you're doing it as in the five day test, experiement then you are getting something from the book. If you are just practicing... Dont! When you PhotoRead, PhotoRead with a purpose. Just do and let it be the best you can for now.

I pretty much never lose the blip. I just find myself thinking about pretty much anything else other than my goals and purpose.

I'll try prepping the books a bit, and maybe changing my posture/angle.

As for practice, I always have some goal, even if it's minor, in mind. For example, I Tivo'ed a 2-part program on FDR (history channel rocks) sunday night and last night. So last night I pulled an FDR biography off the shelf with the goal to remember details so the show will be more meaningful, along with a few question I had after watching part of the show.

Remember to say the chant or a chant to keep you mind fairly blank It doesn't stop it from wandering off but it gives you something to come back to when you notice it has.
