When I mind map I get too many branches, when I am mind mapping technical manuals or books. I have a book that has chapters divided up into 21 sections. 21 branches are too many.

Do a mind map for each chapter. Remember technical books are like textbooks, treat each chapter as a book.

I am treating each chapter as a book, but the chapters have 21 to 30 parts or more each.

Consider what is important. You don't really need all the branches. Just the ones that help you to remember the information. What you write on the mind map and what you don't.
