Pete,
Whats distinctive about Spring Forest Qigong? I've been doing some basic research into Qigong and realize there are different schools as there are masters. Also, there are different 'goals', if i can use that word with each major school. Can Spring Forest be classified under health/medical type of qigong? So, whats distinctive about Spring Forest? Why did you guys at Learning Strategies pick Chunyi Lin and not someone else? I understand his accessibility to you being in the same state has to play a major influence since there are other great qigong masters out there, but surely there are other reasons for learning from him and not somebody else, say like Dr. Yan Xin for instance (who has amazing testimonials)?

I did a search on Dr. Yan Xin and found lots of information except anything on the exercises or how you learn them. I would think this is a major advantage to the Spring Forest method in that I just ordered it and it came with a manual, video tape, audio tapes and a cd, very user friendly. I haven't a clue how you learn this other method???

Sure. But I'm still curious why Learning Strategies chose Chunyi Lin and not someone else? (and produce like materials for that person)

I thought Chunyi Lin came to this country for a swap type of a program. He ended up in Minnesota. Pete then attended his class & was impressed. I definitely know this is partially correct. This is Pete's "baby" and probably Chunyi Lin found Pete . When the student is ready, the Master shows up.

Intriguing! Pete's baby huh? Hope Pete will fill in the missing pieces for me. I love those classic master-disciple stories you can see in Asian martial arts movies from Hong Kong and China.

I knew very little about Qigong until the day I first met Chunyi Lin in a workshop.

I had been traveling in Germany's Mosel Valley when I kept seeing the name "Rebstock." A name of a city, vineyard, inn, clerk at a hotel, etc. Every day for a week I came across the name.

I came home to a message on my home answering machine from Leslie Rebstock. She was the wife of Gary Rebstock, the Minneapolis anchorman who did the 6-minute story on PhotoReading, and subsequently an 8-minute piece on Spring Forest Qigong.

Leslie invited me to a workshop that weekend as her guest. Since I just came home, I wanted time to decompress and do my laundry. She insisted. I told her no, but if anything changed I would call her back.

Well, that name Rebstock kept flashing through my mind from every incident in Germany. I called her back fifteen minutes later and told her I was in.

It was a private class for a dozen friends of Leslie in the beautiful home of another one of her friends.

The first time I practiced I felt the energy--it was strong and wonderful. I couldn't stop bouncing during my exercise--Chunyi said that was my energy waking up.

Did he find me? Well, some how the Universal energy found me in Germany, so...

What makes it different?

So many things:

1) Simplicity; most anyone can practice
2) Chunyi is a healer, and he discovered how to teach others
3) Chunyi has worked to take the mystery out of Qigong.
4) Chunyi understands English and has worked to understand Western culture.
5) Chunyi is willing to work with researchers. There are studies now on Spring Forest Qigong on blood pressure, ADD, breast cancer, quitting smoking, and more.
6) Chunyi taught over 7,000 students before I met him and his students rave about him, the practice, and the results they've seen in their own lives.
7) It works.

I read a dozen or so books on Qigong, took workshops from others, and watched video tapes--nothing compares to Spring Forest Qigong.

But what hooked me more than anything was the results my Mom experienced.

Wow Pete, you had me at Rebstock
Thanks, I appreciate your sharings. It really does help me (and other silent visitors to this board i'm sure) have a greater appreciation for how the course came into being.
I was wondering though whether you could address a few other queries/concerns I still have:
well, here they are,
1) Is it okay to use Spring Forest Qigong with paraliminals in the same day part (say listen to maybe personal genius or some other tape to enter into flow state and then do the qigong exercises and meditations? And maybe even relaxation tape to close off Qigong session? Not to mention using other paraliminals (like Belief, New Behavior Generator,Prosperity for instance), to help 'learn' and progress in qigong practice. I would not want to see my paraliminals collecting dust when I start doing Qigong!

2) In the short time I've used the products of Learning Strategies, I've had great respect for the breadth of research done by Paul Scheele and company as a part of each of your home study courses and ability to condense it so that it becomes readily accessible into useful tools for people like me.

What concerned me initially about Spring Forest Course was that you seem to be drawing largely from just one master healer/1 source. That makes it harder to compare (unlike your other products which are fairly unique) with what else is out there (like Ken Cohen's book, videos and tapes which seems great also)
I understand that Chunyi Lin is a master of his craft but is he simply re-presenting what is already out there on the market or really creating a new system of learning Qigong based on his own practices?
I have no way of knowing this except to take your word since most of the testimonials are from people who have taken the live workshop sessions with Chunyi.

The message board here is awfully unnaturally quiet also: are people having any success with the course and not sharing at all I wonder? (this is unlike the other boards like paraliminals and photoreading where i can get feedback and interactions from the learning community)

3) All/most of the readings I have done on line (only) point to the fact that although it is indeed possible to learn qigong and taiqi from a combination of video, audio, and books, it is still recommended that we get personal instruction from a master (one who can emit qi of course), if possible. Such contact would both hasten & balance the progress and growth of the newbie practioner himself/herself. Would anything be missing from my personal growth if I just took the course without ever going for a live workshop with the originator of the course himself?

[I just found some of the answers to my 2nd question when i found the homepage of
Anoka-Ramsey Community College where it describes the four levels of SFQ. For those who are want to check it out, the link is at: http://www.ar.cc.mn.us/cect/spring_forest_qigong.htm

I hear that you will be supporting SPF with a new website next year (?)Can't wait to see it!

I would still appreciate any further info. and clarifications u might be able to offer me
Regards

1) Yup, go ahead and listen to Paraliminals along with your Qigong practice. I would, however, give yourself at least twenty minutes between listening to any program and practicing Qigong. Actually, a break of a couple of hours would probably be best.

2) Chunyi has developed Spring Forest Qigong, which has similiarities to other forms, but it really is a separate form. You will not find Spring Forest Qigong contained within the body of any other form of Qigong. We're collecting and adding more and more testimonials from people who have used only the self-study.

3) You do not need to attend a workshop or see Chunyi in person. You can learn it from the self-study. But, that first time I saw the Mona Lisa in real life has stayed with me for life.
